Too bad columnists cant be Zotted. Piece of advise Mr Macomber, DON'T break the law and threaten Police. Obey them. that way no one gets tasered. Besides, I hear it is a damn sight better than the rubber coated bullets. Or would you rather those???

- 50000 volts
- less than 1/10th of an amp
- ZERO deaths - 100% recovery
- Crime rate decline due to the use of tasers: PRICELESS

Yeah, that's why I put "less than"... 1/10th is the leathal limit, right? I knew it was something way less than that.

Re: Rubber bullets
Well the "activists" in Chicago in '68 never enjoyed the low-tech wooden night stick either. I think the anger is that the the protester can't get close enough to tangle with the cops. Too bad...BUZZZ!

It would sort of be swept under the rug, like the deaths caused by abortion.

there was nothing heroic about arresting hundreds of people for standing more than four abreast on the sidewalk That's true, but that's not why the cops were heroes - they were heroes for being willing to tolerate the smell of a mob of doped up, screaming leftists in the line of duty.

At first I thought this was a zot thread with a creative alteration of the headline by the mods. :-)

I'll probably get a flame or two but here goes.
I share some of the restraint you express. The fact that a Taser is considered to be "Non-Lethal" means of restraint (A good thing IMO) might well be a reason for using it excessively.
Whether or not one agrees with the article the fact of using the Taser in some pretty bizarre situations (Hand Cuffed, Wheel Chair Bound individuals) would appear to be instances where, if it were not available, other effective means of subduing the individual would be used - Means which would present no greater danger to the police than the Taser method does. That, coupled with the fact that the device just might be lethal to some individuals in some instances would suggest that it should be used as sparingly as possible. IMO the ease of use and it's availability seem to be supporting excessive use of the device

Thank you.
Another thing is the sad fact that not all police are good people and I suspect that in some instances (Rare I hope) This Tasr is used as a means of nonlethal punishment - Again, something that would happen less if the device was not as easily used and considered nonlethal albeit painful.

Realistically, 50,000 volts may not be enough; to ensure compliance without damage 100,000 volts would probably serve better as early Tesla experiments show clearly that voltages in this range pulse harmlessly along the surface; in other words we can tickle them into submission, although that isn't very hard to do to a 15 year old already.

All the yak about voltage aside, we start to get a picture that someone here deeply resents authority and is convinced that our government has somehow invented the war on terrorism. We will keep a sharp eye out for your byline from now on so as not to miss all this important commentary.
