The worst part of this is that federalism would take care of much of this if the Left could restrain itself from imposing its values on all states, and instead implement them legislatively in the few states where the people agree with them.

You are correct, IMHO. The left covets power, period. Once that power is gained society is again segregated, but it is then us and them. They have all the perks and we provide the labor to make it possible. Freedom? Simply a bourgeois fantasy.
