Not shaby at all for a supposedly "mature" economy that is "too mature" to grow that fast.

Nail on the head! This is one major point that separates us from the EU. The EU has no entrepreneurial class or spirit. Their government has made it just too difficult to create nimble start ups to rival the behemoth's who currently control their economy. This is by design as the big guys collude with government to ensure no challenges are made to their turf. This keeps their employees fat and happy with all the benefits and keeps their enablers in power.

With so much taxation and regulation it's not surprising entrepreneurs are so rare. Without them few new businesses are created and they fall further behind the technology curve.
