BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) - In one of the world's biggest robberies, thieves took the families of two top bankers hostage and forced the bosses to help them steal more than $39 million from the vaults of a Belfast bank's main office, authorities said Tuesday.

The Northern Bank held an estimated £30 million, but it is thought the criminals’ only error was not having sufficient transport to take away the entire contents of the vaults.
The haul is estimated at 20-27 million £

The largest circulated bank note issued by the Bank of England is the 50£, however these are relatively rare.

That's a lot of paper.
