SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A rare and potentially serious sexually transmitted disease has turned up in a few patients in San Francisco, prompting health officials to issue a public warning.
The disease is called lymphogranuloma venereum, or LGV. It's a form of chlamydia, a common sexually transmitted infection, but LGV can cause scarring of the genitals and colon and cause lymph glands near the groin to swell or burst.
While the illness is rarely seen outside of poor, tropical nations, it has recently turned up in the Netherlands. Doctors in Rotterdam reported 92 cases among gay men there during a 17-month period ending in September. A few cases have also been reported in Belgium, France, Sweden and Atlanta.
Four patients, all gay men, have been treated for LGV in San Francisco so far, and none had traveled to the Netherlands. For that reason, health officials believe there may be other cases in the city that have not yet been detected.

I doubt they will spin it at all, they will just ignore it or Phoo Phoo it. Until their groins explode!
LOL! Good one....
It never ceases to amaze me.....thank you, San Francisco.
No, I'm an aidsophobe...well never mind...it's the same thing.
Wasn't there a thread posted a while back that predicted this would happen?
lj will be gone from FR for a short while. I'm the volunteer until little jeremiah gets back online.
If you want on/off the list let me know.
Labradors have a common condition referred to as lick-granulomas caused by their bored licking of an exposed portion of usually the uppermost part of a fore-paw; because it remains in an irritated state and then begins to itch, they repeatedly worry it to where it grows, resembling a wart and becomes grossly swollen. It is more prevalent among the males of the species.
Sort of just like them burstin' martians in "MARS ATTACKS"...
"I left my groin, in San Francisco...."
A guess:
1. There are "clubs" (bordellos) in these major cities - which cities have large and affluent and strident homosexual populations - which cater to homosexual men by providing what amounts to enslaved sex partners: boy-whores, essentially.
2. These slaves are acquired from the poor tropical nations in which this form of chlamydia is common.
3. The local homosexual population contracts the disease from these sex-slaves.
4. No one will connect the dots when the CDC notices the eruption of infections.
just a guess, but I'm willing to put a month's pay on it as a bet. The trade in sex-slaves (both adult and child) for heterosexual consumption is a known factor in all these regions, so the networks and patterns are already well established.
Hanta virus?
This stuff doesn't just turn up? The more the depraved pop the pooper the greater the chance of coming up with snakes eyes. You can't lose if you don't gamble...
So will all Fruit-of-the-Loom and BVD men's briefs now carry a warning label visible from the rear?
Is that Fruit of the BOOM!? Backfire Veneral Disease?!
There was a real flamer at the seafood market in line ahead of me last week.
"Those thwimp are tho big, i'll take thwee pounds. Please wap each pound thepawtley, I want to fweeze them"
"But maybe, just maybe, the gays that transmitted it travelled to San Francisco? HMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm?"
Perhaps they "travelled" the "Hershey Highway", or the "Dirt Road" to get there?
Or, maybe they travelled the "Back Alley's" of life, or maybe...
Wht doesn't somebody just start selling LGV bracelets? At least people would know that you care.
I've not seen a case "in the flesh" but the pictures are wonderfully gross. When I was in the service we had to be prepared to see what the men might drag back from Thailand and etc.
The birth of a new democratic constituency? From the child-sex shops of the 3rd world, via Europe, straight to San Fran - and it's not even their fault - that's how it will play out, right before the call for more federal dollars to help with programs for it.
/armchair pet psychology ;-)
What a great idea!
