MOSUL, Iraq — An explosion at a U.S. base near the northern city of Mosul (search) on Tuesday caused "multiple causalities," the U.S. military said.
The cause of the blast, which occurred around noon, was under investigation, the statement said.
A military spokesman in Mosul declined to give further details.
The U.S. Army's Task Force Olympia is based in this predominantly Sunni Muslim city.
