BUSH'S IMMIGRATION PET PHRASES
michellemalkin.com ^ | 12/20/2004 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 12/20/2004 12:21:42 PM PST by nanak

After the White House news conference this morning, Bill Kristol on Fox News praised President Bush's remarks about "immigration reform" as "eloquent." Beg to differ. The president's open-borders statements were empty, garish platitudes strung together sloppily like cheap Christmas lights:

Illegal aliens "do the job Americans won't do." President Bush used that dog-tired phrase about a half-dozen times during today's press conference as he defended his impending illegal alien amnesty plan. Mark Krikorian effectively puts this mindless rhetoric to rest here.

"Family values don't stop at the Rio Grande." Uh huh. Well, terrorists and gang members and drunken murderers and cop-killers don't stop there either. And based on past and recent experience, granting amnesty to 13 million law-breakers will only result in more illegal immigration, not less.

We need immigration reform that "recognizes reality." Rank-and-file immigration enforcement officials give a real reality check on the amnesty debacle here, here, and here.

As immigration enforcement veteran/former U.S. prosecutor Peter Nunez put it:

[W]e need to stop the talk of a coming amnesty, or of a guest worker program, both of which, by themselves, serve to encourage additional illegal immigration. What kind of message are we sending when we dangle that possibility before people desperate enough to put their lives at risk? Doesn’t this kind of talk also indicate that we really don’t care much about law breaking, that we don’t really care that much about the rule of law, that these immigration laws exist only as a token objection to the violation of our sovereignty? Now, that is eloquent.

"It's babies or immigrants, folks. Take your pick. We cannot arrive at 2025 with two workers per retiree."

We open the border with Syria and Jordan, and there won't be a United States of America in 2025.

"I agree with the pres on this one... There are a bunch of illegals that go to my church and they seem like good people who are just looking for a better life. The truth of the matter is that I would do the same thing if I was them. They aren't hurting anyone for the most part."

Here in the Northeast, we're being overrun by Muslim illegals (as well as Latino illegals.) Illegal Tunisians and Moroccans were staffing security at the Boston airport on 9/11. Makes you think.

All illegals don't go to church. They don't all have good "family values." The bottom line is that WE HAVE NO CONTROL over who is in this country. Our borders are totally unsecure.

An open border is the handmaiden of terrorism.

"Here in the "belly of the beast" (Sacramento) we have a morning talk show guy who is approaching this whole issue with studied, well researched, non-emotional rhetoric. He says. Then he launches into a diatribe about knuckle-dragging, pot-and-pan-banging rants of those who oppose how he feeeeeeeeeeels about the issue -- basically pro "guest worker" and just about anything Arnold wants. Go figure."

I sense our President is feeling his way on this issue, as well. I never hear much in the way of facts to support his arguments... it's all empty platitudes about being a nation of immigrants, and showing family valules to newcomers.

jammed and overcrowded...

Oh, spare me. I drove across the country a couple of years ago, moving from San Diego to DC. This ain't Denmark. We have wide-open spaces that don't even have names.

Every mouth comes with two hands. This Malthusian stuff is nonsense.

Did someone suggest we do that, or are you illustrating absurdity by being absurd?

I live in Texas also. Illegal immigration is a much discussed subject. Citizens can't afford health insurance so they are going across the border to Mexican doctors. Traffic is unreal here bumper to bumper today. Mexican cars are everywhere. Our unemployment is in the double digits. It is so bad that H.E.B. would go out of business if it weren't for the Lone Star card.

We thank you for pumping in over a billion each year to make us look prosperous.

Nobody rattles the RINOs' cage better than Michelle Malkin.

Hypocrisy and double-talk is UN-ACCEPTABLLE from BOTH sides of the aisle...

Yes, that includes President Bush.

Well, how confident are we that there will be restrictions on "amnesty" to limit it to Mexicans? After the liberal activist courts are done... we won't be allowed to "discriminate" by maintaining an open border just with Mexico.

Not to mention that I have no doubt any Syrian or Jordanian could buy identity papers in Mexico for $50.

Illegal immigration is a much discussed subject.

Maybe in El Paso and Harlingen, but it's not a blip in Austin or Dallas or even Houston.

"We need more people"

Our classrooms are jammed and overcrowded, our freeways and highways jammed, lines everywhere, make a phone call and your put on hold for 15 minutes, our jails are overcrowded, colleges are at capacity, landfills full, limited resources, pollution problems, social services choked off, limited hospital bed space, hospitals closing due to the poor that don't pay, most all the choice areas in this country are already built out, I could go on and on..

And you want millions upon millions more people?

About 60 million more, yes.

Good Lord!

Oh, spare me. I drove across the country a couple of years ago, moving from San Diego to DC. This ain't Denmark. We have wide-open spaces that don't even have names.

Good I idea Nick.

Lets import 60 *million* more people. All that prime open space on the Kansas and Texas plains, why President Bush could build 40,000, 50-story pink apartment buildings to house the uneducated, the muslims, the poor illegals etc. Hey, they'll love that weather too!

Once you get your 60 million more, shoot for another 100 million! As long as we have a few open acres, lets fill it with people! It'll be glorious Nick!

Good Grief!

"I find the demand that all illegal aliens be kicked out of the country to be amusing. There is no political consensus to do that, nor will there be in the foreseeable future."

But there is "popular consensus" -- you remember -- "WE THE PEOPLE"??

I'd like to know where the "political consensus" is for our so-called "legislators" treating the US Constitution like a roll of Charmin?

Are you to the point where you are "amused" that the laws regarding sovereignty are ignored by those sworn to uphold them? Is it because you find legislators sworn only to their own personal power and agendae?

"The President is trying to address a serious problem seriously, and all we get are unrealistic demands and attacks on the man."

Oh, baloney.

The man has had four years to react accordingly after the worst security breach in US history, and he's STILL dilly-dallying as millions of unaccounted for and unregistered illegals saunter through the border onto a red carpet.

"Where's the will to send 8 million illegals back to Mexico?"

Talk to the "people" -- remember them??

"I can't remember a single politician in this state who has made deporting illegals a centerpiece of his campaign. You'd think that in conservative Texas that could be done. But, nobody does it."

Why not??

It's called "pandering" for votes and cowering in the face of a potential backlash instead of courageously campaigning of principle and campaigning on security....

The "centerpiece" will occur after the next 9/11...

It was just more internationalist ass kissing.

The American people are not fooled and sooner or later they will get sick of a government by the people of the people and for the people that only covers their ears as they give them the finger

This is my prophecy

if they do not REALLY close those borders.. the republicans have seen the end of the presidency for at least 2 cycles

It's that or start killing people. Which will be, Joe? Babies, immigrants, or euthanasia? Those are the options. The babies are not forthcoming. Now what?

You're a lot better with the ridicule than you are with the solutions. Bush can't afford that. He actually has to decide what to do.

Being a highly moral man, Bush does not wish to stand by and do nothing when it is obvious that he can, by acting now, head off widespread euthanasia in the United States when the demographic crunch hits. He has to do that. He has no choice. To do otherwise is to bring on more Culture of Death.

Since you have no answers, I'll go with his.

I saw that entire press conference. Bush's dissertation on the invasion dilemma sounded like it came right from the lips of some seditionist like Raul Yzaguirre of the National Council of La Raza.

We missed it, but from what were hearing on radio on the west coast, he's just going to finish undermining what's left of our borders.

Presidente Fox must be happier than a worm in a bottle of mezcal today.

No doubt about that.

Instead of getting serious with this titanic, nation killing invasion, he gets up there today and literally invited millions more to pour in.

Nothing surprises us any more.

Sure. Talk to them. Nobody runs on illegal immigration. If it was a winning issue, more politicians, especially along the border, would run on it. They don't.

And "the people" don't seem to be bothered by it.

So it was like Yzaguirre except with more stammering and repetition?
