I'm unsure of who these fine folks are you refer to: although I do recollect Hoplite as a Turkish sympathizer...now there's a reactionary obsolete thinker for you.
Yeah...you are on the money...these guys are still thinking in terms of Cold War nonsense and personal grudges against the Eastern Orthodox and Christians in general. Betcha any money they are on del Ponte's side when it comes to Slobo.

Hoplite is a cheerleader for the KLA and the Bosniaks as well, basically Islam. He's also a big time Yushchenko supporter.

Bush and Putin are meeting to mend fences. And the relationship has been strained. As for your comment about keeping up with the news, CDM most certainly keeps up with the news.
To: Halgr
Wool over Bush's eyes?...nor likely...you sound like the losers in November.
Putin is the right guy in the right place doing the right thing. Dubya knows it but apparently some here haven't figured it out.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend...that applies to the Dubya-Vlad relationship and concerns scum like Soros.
Richard Perle told Kommersant that Russia ought to be expelled from the G-8 over the arrest of Khodorkovsky...
Where is Perle now? Hmmmm.

CDM keeps up with the news? This is all rehashed reconstituted and reconfigured old news. Simplistic and not up to Frepublic standards.
Gee whiz, she doesn't even know enough to write Ukraine...she writes "The" Ukraine.
Don't know the woman and don't honestly care. These yahoos are a dime a dozen.

That's ok, Gary, keep your head buried in the sand. Let me make another statement that you won't like - I have far more experience with Soviet intelligence and the KGB than you will ever know, and I know their tactics.
No, I will not tell you more than that.
Wow! I'm impressed with your brigading. Maybe you do have more experience than I with the KGB, then maybe not. It really doesn't matter at this stage. I'm not concerned.
My "assumptions" as you phrased them, are based on things that Putin has said and done since becoming President of Russia. Putin has said that he wanted to restore the "glory" of the USSR to the Russian Republic. As recently as 2 years ago, Putin went out with a herd of Russia subs and conducted a series of "war games" conducted against a simulated American enemy. This occurred after Russia and America were supposed to be forging a new, friendly relationship. And, there have been more than a few news articles reporting on the new aggressiveness of Russian warships toward American warships.
Let's see, you gathered this intelligence from your secret sources or the television?
As for Putin and Yuschenko, there is no doubt in my mind that Putin was behind the poisoning of Viktor Yuschenko. It totally fits within his goals to keep as much of the former USSR under his control as he can. Yuschenko has his own ideas and will not toe the line as Pootie-Poot wants.
Your military intelligence is full of holes, and to be honest sounds more like a Maureen Dowd opinion.
Don't forget, Putin has plunged a few daggers in Bush's back. The Dioxin that he tried to poison Yuschenko with is the primary ingredient of Agent Orange which was used to defoliate so many forests in Vietnam and affected so many American AND Vietnamese with terrible health problems.
So, you're an adviser to Yushchenko, and he has revealed to you the exact formula in the Dioxin poison he experienced, correct?
You sound gullible enough to buy the oceanfront property in Kansas that I have for sale.
Your passion for insults is noted.

The Neocons on China - 05/24/2000 - Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr. - The predictable Weekly Standard weighs in this week on the question of trade with China. Its not hard to guess where the cheerleaders for the warfare state come down. Writing on the main editorial page, William Kristol and Robert Kagan call for Congress to reject Permanent Normal Trade Relations with China. In Marxian style, they demonize all supporters of the PNTR as whores turning tricks in exchange for corporate contributions.
Might there be any solid reason for the US to have normal trade relations with the worlds most populous country, an ancient, high civilization that has set a record in our time for economic reform and growth? It comes down to two words: peace and prosperity. Trade with China is integral to achieving both. The warmongers must not be permitted to rob us of this opportunity.
The Weekly Standards editorial is a good reminder that as much as the neocons have shaped themselves up on some domestic issues they can be reliable on racial and sexual politics and even on many economic questions when it comes to international politics, its all war, all the time. Its also a reminder that there are times when the corporate establishment and the "money power" are sounder on issues of war and peace than the neocons.

If many of the Russian scholars continue to say "the Ukraine" (see McFaul), then it's good enough for other to use -- you're a smarty pants.
To: GarySpFc
Good responses, Gary. I'm impressed with your command of rhetoric.
However, beauty is skin deep, dumb is forever. You will be one of the surprised people on the planet when Putin makes his move to re-establish the USSR.
I won't.

With all due respect you need to think outside the box...a box that doesn't apply in the post cold war era.
Putin needs our support not condemnation...the fragmentation of the former SU cannot be tolerated whether or not Soros wants it or not. Comprende?
Do you remember what happened at the Russian schoolhouse? If you do, you might get it.

I don't trust ANYONE (Even Bush)....Putin has been quacking a lot like a duck lately....he just may be a duck.
I don't see what the schoolhouse has to do with anything except Putin seems to be taking advantage of it.
Hey....you read the news your way and I'll read it my way....neither of us will change the others mind....Obviously....
But I am convinced he is up to no good.....Free Country....Right?

Convinced by what? You know, getting the news from the BBC and NPR does not allow anyone to formulate a clear vision for what is happening in Russia today.
I suggest a continued critical review of Putin and Russia vis a vis the West. The schoolhouse is a symbol of a far more threatening situation for us all than just the cloudy events Ukraine and Yukos.
