Free the Philadelphia 4

I'm amazed when seemingly intelligent people tell me they still think the American Civil Liberties Union is a group that fights for First Amendment freedoms no matter whose ox is being gored.

If that's the case, why is the ACLU not filing amicus briefs in Philadelphia where four Christians are facing 47 years in jail for expressing their free-speech rights?

That's right. Four Christians are facing 47 years in prison for peacefully quoting the Bible, an action an unglued local prosecutor determined to be "fighting words" when cited among homosexual activists.

It all started Oct. 10, when a total of 11 members of Repent Americaended a homosexual street festival called "Outfest."

The group, ranging in age from 17 to 72, was surrounded at times by the organizers' security force, known as the "Pink Angels."

Videotapes and still photos taken at the event show the Pink Angels blocking the path of the Repent America members, shouting at them, blowing whistles and so forth. The Christians remain peaceful and calm at all times, despite what appears to be extraordinary provocation, intimidation and harassment.

Guess who was arrested?

That's right. The Christians.

And they've been charged with a long list of felonies and hate crimes that would make the Founding Fathers spin in their graves.

Correction: Paragraph #4 should read:

What's disgusting about this is the fact that these Christians are being sacrificed on the alter of political correctness at he expense of our Constitution while the Mainstream news media choose to remain silent.

...while the Mainstream news media choose to remain silent.

Should read:

"With the active participation of the Mainstream news media."

Come to think of it, you're absolutely right. I stand corrected.

That's the question I keep asking myself. Maybe the Perfect Storm is in the works, somehow or other. Fencesitters and those asleep at the couch need to wake up and choose who they're going to serve.

Unfortunately many people are thinking of the immediate gratification of the minute rather than the fact that individually and collectlively, we're sitting in a little boat, and the roar of the waterfall is getting perceptibly louder.

So what do a lot of people do? Turn up the volume of the movie so they aren't made uncomfortable by the roar and increasing spray of the upcoming falls.

Can anyone who watches/hears/reads the MSM tell us if they are touching this with a ten foot pole?

One must remember that Rigali is first and foremost a politician. (Yes, there are politicians in the Catholic Church!)

I am from St. Louis where Rigali was Bishop for some years, and I personally like him. I thought he did a half way decent job of running the Archdiocese and its various issues. Yes, I disagreed with him on some things, but after Arch Bishop May and now seeing Burke, Rigali is looking better and better everyday.

But I digress . . .its up to the parishoners to pressure Rigali. I can't believe he has been mum on this for so long, but put some pressure on him. Try to get it in the newspaper and on tv that Catholics are pressuring him to speak out against this. Also helps if some of those who are doing the pushing are also very involved and contribute those all important greenbacks to the diocese.

Just my two cents worth.

Not the most comprehensive list but a good start. I think a fax-o-rama is in order on this one. This isn't about sexual orientation but they will try to make that the issue. If this prosecution is successful it will be a landmark for restriction of freedom of speech.

Thanks for the info.

If this prosecution is successful it will be a landmark for restriction of freedom of speech.

They're hoping this case will go before the SCOTUS.

The libs have realized the fact that their ideology fails at the polls and their puppets in the legislature can't get anything done (apart from PA and CA recently passing "hate crime" legislation). So they pin their hopes on the activist Judges and Judicial Activism.

You are certainly right as to bishops being politicians, and it is sad as all get out. Bishops should be leaders, but most are Kerry-like, with a wet finger in the wind. My favorite quote, which probably says a lot about me, is the one about the streets of hell being paved with the skulls of bishops. It is easy to see why the quote exists.
