The gov't "allows" mail carriers to accept gifts up to $20.00.

I know!

I was as surprised as you when I heard about that.

I figured that "Tipping" civil servants went out with the Hatch Act.

I put stuff in the box for my carrier:') She brings packages to the door instead of leaving a pick up notice, comes back if she overlooks something instead of waiting until the next day and will even give me my mail early if it's important and she's not on my side of the street yet.

After the anthrax scare I put a card in the box for her thanking for delivering my mail and to be careful. She looked ready to cry when she told me thank you later.

That $20 limit is interesting as that was what I put in a Christmas card to our mailman during the anthrax crisis in 2001.

I have the nation's nicest letter carrier and I fully intend to remember her with a small gift. She brings my mail to the door, always smiles and greets me by name and does a great job! Go Mabel!
