My evidence comes from the news about Iraq, plain and simple. In just this latest matter, Rumsfeld admitted he didn't sign letters of condolence; how do you explain or justify this total lack of comprehension or caring on his part for the families of those who died valiantly carrying out his bizarre ideas for Iraq (the President can sign the letters, is it that Mr. Rumsfeld was just too busy cozying up to the press?) Its like what Jay Leno said, "Rumsfeld at his conference for the troops in Kuwait downplayed their need for armored vehicles. Then at the end of the conference, he climbed into his armored car and was driven to the airport|".

The man is trying to run TWO WARS and these people are whining because he didn't sign a few letters. That's just so petty and juvenile .. it's beyond belief. It has nothing to do with caring or comprehension - the people who don't comprehend are those who have no conception what it takes to run the Pentagon in the first place.

When I see Rumsfeld "cozying up to the press" - HELL WILL HAVE FROZEN OVER.

Laconic, you are full of it. (It's only out of respect for this site that I use such a polite term--believe me, I'm thinking of something much more earthy) I'd guess by your statements, you have never been been in the Boy Scouts or in organized sports, let alone the military.

Donald Rumsfeld is an adult sir, pure and simple. You on the other hand, are a little child who does not understand the world.

The Secretary of War during WWI and WWII did not sign condolence letters. Nor did the his predecessors in the re-named position of Secretary of Defense in Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Kosov, or Gulf War I. Most of these families received a telegram. Sometimes, they got a letter from the commander and it was good enough. All of you pinheads think that sensitivity & appearances matter. They don't. But then, children never understand the matters of adults.
