Two county deputies shot, along with suspect (Two ARIZONA COPS shot by ILLEGAL ALIEN!!!)
East Valley Tribune ^ | 12/17/2004 | Kim Smith and Kristina Davis

Two Maricopa County sheriff's deputies were shot Thursday during the serving of a search warrant in east Mesa. A suspect was shot by a third deputy.

Deputy Sean Pearce, who is the son of Rep. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, was shot in the abdomen. He was flown to Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, where he underwent surgery to remove part of his large intestine. Deputy Lew Argetsinger was shot in the hand and taken by ambulance to the medical center. Both were stable.

The suspect, Jorge Luis Guerra Vargas, 22, was flown to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix with nonlife-threatening facial injuries.

According to authorities, detectives with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office wanted to execute a search warrant at the mobile home of a homicide’s investigative lead, but asked Maricopa County SWAT team members to enter first to ensure their safety.

Lt. Dave Trombi said seven members of the team knocked on the door at 111 S. 91st Way at 6:35 a.m., announced their presence in English and Spanish, then broke through the door. They were a short distance inside when a subject opened fire.

Both deputies shot were wearing ballistic body armor, but Pearce was struck in an unprotected spot, Trombi said.

A third deputy returned fire on GuerraVargas, who was alone in the home, Trombi said.

Pinal County Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Minter said detectives had hoped to obtain evidence pertaining to a recent homicide in Hewlitt Station, a community near Queen Valley.

A hunter called deputies Dec. 5 after he found a body with a gunshot wound to the head buried under a pile of scrap lumber, Minter said.

Investigators found fresh tire tracks on the scene, and the clue led authorities to the mobile home.

Esteban Soto, the investigative lead in the case, was found Thursday in New Mexico and is being detained for questioning there.

Deputies are still working to identify the body, which is described as a 20- to 25-year-old Hispanic male.

Pearce has been on the force for 11 years, Deputy Argetsinger for three years.

Rep. Pearce, said he was in Washington, D.C., testifying on an immigration panel when he was told his son had been shot.

"He is feisty. He will do well," he said. "I guarantee that the moment he is allowed back, he will put that uniform on and be out there doing police work."

Russell Pearce also was shot in the chest and hand in the line of duty about 20 years ago while chasing gang members in Guadalupe.

Efforts to contact Argetsinger's family were unsuccessful.

"That understanding has been lost today, in the quest to maximize next quarter's corporate profits."

Well, you have to realize, for them, anything that happens in the next quarter is long-term planning. I think short-term planning is anything that happens in two weeks.

Is there extra info somewhere that says the shooter is an illegal alien? Am I missing it?

I don't know if the article makes that clear --- but you can bet he's a citizen of Mexico --- and you're right --- many legal immigrants are not better than the illegals --- our immigration policies are far too lax and the Mexican drug cartels are having no problem setting up their family and cartel members on the USA side. One thing you can pretty much rule out is that this thug is a hispanic American whose family has lived in the USA for many generations --- that group --- unlike the Mexicans --- has a very low crime rate --- they aren't all that inclined to get into the drug cartel business.

Oh come on, everyone knows that race had something to do with

Where is your proof that "Mexican" is a race --- and not just a nationality? You are dead wrong about Mexican being some separate race --- it is definitely not. There is no Mexican race --- in spite of what La Raza tells you. Mexico is a country composed of many races --- if there is such thing as race in the first place that is. Mexico has European, native Indian, Chinese, Arab, African and other ethnicities. You should come to the border --- you can see Mexicans coming over to shop who are as blond as they can be --- speaking some form of German -- and some speak some Spanish.

Let us know where that thread is.

As I and others with a brain suspected, you didn't really care about the other incident. You didn't bother to make one post on it. Further, your stupid assumption there was no thread on it was immediately demonstrated to be WRONG.

The only race-baiters are people like....you.

An otherwise sensible and smart person.

Believe me, the cover story that you're really just concerned about "illegals" doesn't pass the fact test.

Your glee in exploiting a shooting to promote your point of view is NOT HELPING YOUR CAUSE.

And your eagerness to DENY, OBFUSCATE, and IGNORE the ILLEGAL INFILTRATOR problem is "NOT HELPING YOUR CAUSE".

I can SAFELY say that if we secured our borders, and sent EVERY ILLEGAL back, this sort of incident would be reduced to a FRACTION of it's current rate...can you argue that...without resorting to "racist/mexiphobe/poor illegals looking for work" crap that ALL the FR Infiltrator-supporters rely on??

Um, that was the point. Several posts before that had more or less stated (yes, they did so don't bother denying it) that only illegals shoot cops, and when that idiotic and patently false contention was objected to, the argumet was proffered that illegals have more motive to shoot cops.

Illegals have more of a reason to fear the law than your average Joe Citizen.

That doesn't deter them in the least --- and I doubt there's any reason for them to fear the law more than citizens. If the illegal is here to smuggle and run drugs up through the USA --- they might have reason to fear the law --- but their craving for money outweighs that fear. If they're here to commit felony document fraud and are obtaining stolen identification documents --- they should fear the law --- but unfortuanately for Americans the government seems to give them a pass --- for a crime that Americans would be prosecuted for doing. If an illegal is just raking leaves --- not injuring or harming anyone --- he doesn't have much reason to fear the law --- the most that can happen is he could find himself back in his beloved homeland.

You did.

Ergo all illegals shoot cops. They are all guilty and should all be punished. Still not working for me.

Here...let me help...maybe THIS will get you to understand...

Ergo all illegals shoot cops. They are all guilty and should all be punished.

Does it make more sense, now that the irrational LIEberal gobbledygook has been pared from the comment?

Try to keep up...they are ILLEGAL INFILTRATORS...I give NO CARE for the circumstances...ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL!

Why do people like you have SUCH a blind spot for that word "Illegal"?

exploiting a shooting to promote

Are you actually suggesting that the borders must remain so open that murderers from Mexico can come here --- and kill other Mexicans and then shoot cops trying to arrest them and we're not supposed to mind that at all? I think anyone who enjoys the Mexican crime rate that much should go live in Mexico. No American living on the border --- hispanics or whites or blacks wants to see the fences in town taken down --- it's intesting in El Paso --- the crime rate is low but in Ciudad Juarez the crime rate is incredible --- and much of that --- thanks to the fences which keep their crime on their own side.

Do you think articles like this should be hidden?

No, but I think that this sounds like gloating that 2 cops got shot, now I can party because I can complain about illegal aliens.

Two Arizona Cops shot by ILLEGAL ALIENS !!!

My view is that in a perfect world, we and all countries should have open borders like the border between Ohio and Indiana. The reality is that we can not currently. We could probably have open borders with Japan, Ireland, etc., but not with everyone.

Border control, like most govt., is a necessary evil. But this gloating over a shooting hurts the argument of the poster.

We have enough crime of our own without importing all the criminals from Mexico. Crime is one big reason there needs to be some control over the border --- Mexico doesn't do much about their criminals --- look at the over 400 unsolved murders of young women and girls in just one town alone. Why should those murderers who run loose in Mexico be allowed to easily cross the border and do what they like over here?

Is it necessary for me to explicitly state I am anti-illegal immigration? For heaven's sake, I am.

That is beside the point.
