NEW YORK This holiday shopping season, consumers have a way to find out which way their favorite store leans in its political givings.
BuyBlue.org offers up information on which political party stores such as Wal-Mart, Amazon.com, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and Sharper Image donate to. For example, of the $2 million Wal-Mart donated during the 2004 election cycle, 80 percent went to Republicans, putting it in the "red category," whereas of the $208,000 Price Club/Costco donated that year, 98 percent of it went to Democrats, putting it in the "blue" category.
.........
Some respondents, for example, surprised that 61 percent of Amazon.com's $100,000 went to Republicans this year, are going so far as to boycott that company. And that mentality may spread.
"I think it's useful and I will use it [though I don't expect to see many stores that give most of their money to Democrats]," said Democrat Kevin Mallon, a lawyer in New York City. "I didn't buy Nike products for years because of their policies and giving money to Republicans is, in my opinion, at least as bad as running a Thai sweatshop. Why would I want any of my money going to a party that is against everything I believe in?"

About Amazon (this was propably discussed at the time): When "Unfit for Command" came out Amazon opened their Web Site to "anything goes" comments on the book, a first. Here is what they posted:
"Important note from Amazon.com: We've decided to suspend our normal customer review policies and rules for this title. For example, we usually prohibit ad hominem attacks. That policy in particular seems to be incompatible with presidential election year politics. Therefore, short of obscenities, reviews on this book are now a free-for-all. We take no responsibility for the following discussion. Aren't presidential election years great? Have fun!"
So if the Left wants to boycott Amazon, I'm all in favor.
However, the website combine the contributions of the companies and employees contributions. It can be the case that a company didn't contribute anything but the employees did and put the company in a problematic situation. The other way around could happen too: many conservatives may work for 'blue' companies. It the companies get hurt, they will be too.
I just went to the 'Buy Blue' site and looked around. The poor democrats have to boycott almost every chain in the United States of America to support only liberal companies. LOL...I would not want to be a Dem.
I will continue to buy Red, especially since Victoria Secrets is in the Red column. I'd like to see the Dems refusing to buy there.
I pretty much confine my boycotts to the local level. If I see a business with a campaign sign supporting a Rat I put that business on my list of places to avoid.
Anyone know who BJ's wholesale gives to? I shop there more than costco, which I know is very blue in their political donations. I don't like Sam's club's product lines so that's not an option.
I think this attitude is ridiculous. I have a neighbor/friend who bragged to me about how she never shops at Wal-Mart because they give to the Repbulicans. I pointed out to her that if I shared her views I could never go to see a movie (perhaps wise). She's a proud member of the party of "tolerance".
