The NYT is quoting the CIA that the CIA has bases in NW Pakistan but that Pakistani minders are restricting CIA efforts. I think the CIA has bases in Pakistan. Are the Pakistanis impeding them--I am not so sure this is true, but don't know.
Chitral News has reported that "heavily armed shepherds from Afghanistan" kidnapped a "Pakistani shepherd" and stole his goats. This was depicted as a cross-boarder family feud. Maybe, but it could also be the CIA is disguised as shepherds and is snatching terrorists.
An unidentified American military official has said that Osama my be around Chitral. He could be hiding out and be resupplied by trekkers.
There are also special huts for women who are in labor or having their periods. He could be hiding in one of these huts since Pakistani men might not check them in a search.

It is important to be polite and diplomatic. People typically don't want to help jerks who make threats, trash their religion, country, etc.
Their editor is repeating the Pakistani denials that Osama is around Chitral. Still, he is also telling what the US is saying, so you get both sides.

Chitral is a very poor community that wants more tourism--it is a base camp for the Hindu Kush.
Ask them VERY NICELY to please help in the search for Osama. You need to give your name, phone and address to be published in the letters to the editor.

It has been too long. A message needs to be sent to the world. While I support the war in Iraq I cannot help but think that not enough resources are being sent to Afghanistan.
The CIA think he is in Pakistan, if the NYT is right. The CIA claims it has camps in NW Pakistan.

Time and again we hear and read of the ineficiency and lack of professionalism of the police, and their involvement in many heinous crimes is no rarity either. Chitral police is no exception to this.
One and a half years back,a mother of four children was abducted from lotkoh valley,about 45 kilometer from Chitral town, by people who had come from Karachi, in revenge for their daughter's love marriage and elopement with one of the distant relative of the woman. The poor women was released only two days back by the captors. But the question is: Why the police had failed to catch the abductors who crossed almost a dozen check posts before crossing the lawari pass safely?
But the story of their involvement in crimes is still more pervasive. Only a month back a member of Chitral police was caught red-handed by the local people along with a gang of thieves, who were active for the last few years in lotkoh valley. Later on, the said policeman was transferred from the lotkoh thana to a police station in his home town as punishment. Does he deserve this reward? "Isn't this a joke with the law"?

Cross border dacoits raid Badugal village
CHITRAL,15 Nov 04: A group of Afghan nationals from Kunar province raided a Pakistani village Badugal and decamped with 70 heads of goats and kidnapped its shepherd. The raid is said to be for the second time within a short span of one month. The village is situated at a distance of 40 kms from the Arandu border. The looters allegedly entered the village with heavy arms. The locals could not challenge them being unarmed. in the previous raid last month, the same group had snatched with 18 heads of goats. According to some locals, the incidents are the results of rivalry between two brothers living on both sides. One is living in Badugal while the other in Nooristan of Afghanistan who have developed bitter enmity over land dispute.(report by Zahiruddin)

Bin Laden may be living in Chitral, says US official
CHITRAL,26 Nov 04: (Monitoring desk) Osama Bin Laden,terrorist to many,hero to many others, certainly the most wanted man in the world is still speculated to be alive and living in some unexpected place. 'Yahoo News' has carried an interview of Maj Gen Eric Olson Deputy commander of the American forces in Afghanistan. Excerpt from the news story reads:-
"Here's what I think," said a senior military official. "I think somewhere up in the mountains in Chitral, Bin Laden lives in a house and lives with a family, and probably one bodyguard.
"And once every month, or probably once every two months, he walks 15 miles to another ruin somewhere where he meets with somebody, and then he walks back 15 miles. He doesn't have an HF modem, he doesn't have a satellite TV, DVD, he probably doesn't have any kind of radio."

The Chinese repress the Muslims in the NW Sinkyang Province. All religion is antithetical to the communist government.
I doubt they would want Osama.

The picture is produced by first this mark < then right after it src=img follwed by an equal sign, then quotation marks, then slip in between quotes the "properties" of the picture found by right clicking on the picture or image and cut and paste the properties between the quotation marks then end with this > no spaces as I have left here as it is difficult to do as won't show up on screen when I explain in exact format...it thinks I am trying to post a pic. So why is the CIA telling the NYT they are looking for him in NW Pakistan?
He could be in Pakistan but my money is on the Iranian mullahs. They are more like the taliban in the way they operate, and seem to be capable of hiding OBL.
I hope that the CIA does know where he is.

This is very, very doubtful - Makes no sense for either side (UBL or Iran) -
The fact it is not in UBL "MO" to operate within a Country where a centralized Gov't controls things (that is why he has operated out of Yemen, Afghan, Horn of Africa as well as the Pak border region) -
For Iran, what purpose does it hold to hide UBL (someone they don't need nor agree with along many lines) - In fact, the only assuredy that would come from hiding UBL....would be a guaranteed U.S. Military response once proven true (the exact thing Iran wants to avoid) -
No, UBL (and Al Zawahiri) are living (ekking out a survival) in the main area that they know well...and that US forces have not been able to operate in (in any reasonable numbers) - And that is the Pak border region -
We are talking an area that has many escape routes (into China, Pak or Afghanistan...and Iran)...we are talking an area with escape routes that go to heights were military operations against them are near impossible (without the needed base camps for resupply) - Heights at over 17,000ft become near impossible to operate in -
Until U.S. SOF can operate in the Pak border region.....we will play hell catching UBL - (unless in one of these rare snatch and grab Op's we just happen to land someone with some real-time Intel.....but that is asking for a miracle)
