I believe there is generalization going on here. Am I näive enough to believe that there is no threat to the culture we have in America? No. But also, I think that Americans of all types are doing a very effective job of trashing this country. One thing that will hasten our demise is to attack the foundations of our republic, including the strong bulkheads against tyrrany--by either the government or the masses.
Vigilance is important, and I join the chorus of voices calling upon anti-radical Muslims to take a larger part in the fight against those who would seek to destroy what we have built.

Some serious educating needs to happen to get the percent much higher than 44%
Those of you islamapologists on this thread may want to try reading the Koran and see what it teaches.

There is no conflict there, because you have no cause therein to overthrow the Constitution. Where that is concerned, you have "render unto Caeser." Islam knows no such deference.

Until the anti-radical Muslims do that, I see only benefit, not oppressive government, in keeping an eye on these folks.
If they are doing nothing wrong, they have nothing to fear.

Yeah, and he also has things like:
"Those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." --Benjamin Franklin
A good lesson is contained therein.

Gondring, I am interested in why you find that comment so abhorrent.
Many people in this country are continually monitored by various agencies to keep up with their activities.
This has been going on for years.
During the 60's the FBI and others monitored the activities of various anti-war groups. Right-wing paramiltary organizations are also under constant monitoring.
This is nothing new, particularly in a time when we are at war.
Please tell me where I'm going wrong here!

Agreed.
But what exactly was proposed in the original survey that you would consider giving up Liberty?
No one suggested putting them in concentration camps or anything else that I would consider an infringement of their civil liberties! I think the article was poorly titled.

The survey found 44 percent favored at least some restrictions on the civil liberties of Muslim Americans. Forty-eight percent said liberties should not be restricted in any way.

Twenty-two percent favored racial profiling to identify potential terrorist threats. That is NOT a restriction of civil liberties.

Infiltration of Mosques had the most support.
Let's see...if you had government agents infiltrating your church and taking part in religious sacraments, how would you feel?
