Not sure. He liked to tell funny stories, not bad one's. Though, he was shot in the back once. When he was walking toward a jeep at the MASH unit to return to combat a mortar exploded behind him. It peppered his back with shrapnel. He found great humor in the irony of it.

2 of them required life saving surgery and the third could have resulted in the amputation of his feet. (but didn't) He has also had chronic back pain since, but he's always been a soft spoken and stoic man. Never hear him complain about it. Also, he could care less about medals.
