It's not "a democrat counting [your] vote." Vote tallies are counted by county elections officials, watched by Democratic and Republican observers.
I'm not so sure I trust the election officials. Things have gotten better, but we all know the stories. A friend of mine lives in a town in central MA that is rather famous for having cast more votes for John Kennedy than there were residents in the city. And the election officials in Chicago really helped him as well.
