"Mr. DWI" in trouble again

The man nicknamed “Mister DWI” is in trouble again. 63–year–old Jerry Zeller was arrested Saturday by police for failure to appear in court for an October drunk driving charge.

This is Zeller's 34th DWI arrest. Prosecutors have not been able to charge Zeller as an habitual offender in the past, since a former state law would restart the DWI conviction count after five years.

Zeller's last DWI conviction was in June of 1997, therefore Zeller only faces a misdemeanor for his recent arrest with a maximum sentence of one year in jail.

The state law was changed in July of 2001 to extend the time frame to ten years, instead of five.

Now, if a sober man walks out in front of a car and gets killed and the driver had just consumed two beers, yes alcohol was involved but was it a true factor in the death of the pedestrian, probably not.

You are arguing with the wrong person. It is my opinion that if you have sniffed a wet wine cork, you have no business driving. I have zero tolerance or sympathy for those who drive with any, and I mean ANY, alcohol in them. Drink it at home, or have someone take your keys before you pop the top. I won't even use cough syrup if I'm going to drive.

I consider it reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and if I had my way, a first conviction would be a felony and carry a mandatory 10 year prison sentence and a lifetime revocation of driving privileges.

For some reason, I was dismissed from a DWI jury panel when I told the judge my views. I don't know why.

This man should never be allowed to drive a vehicle for the rest of his life! If he violates that, he should be locked up for life!

Actually, that is his 34th arrest. How many times has the guy being drunk driving and not been caught? Probably hundreds of times.

DWI ain't funny. People get killed."

You know, people get killed doing a lot of things, speeding, improper turns, talking on a cell phone, putting on makeup, etc. The possibilities are endless, and probably cause far more deaths/injuries.

You don't seem to have a clue.

Alcohol related crashes are the leading cause of death for young Americans, between the ages of 16 and 24 years old.

For all Americans between 5 and 35 years of age, motor vehicle accidents are the number one cause of death. Over 50% of these accidents are caused by alcohol impaired drivers.

Recent Alcohol-Involvement Over 50% of all fatal highway crashes involving two or more cars are alcohol related.

Over 65% of all fatal single car crashes are alcohol related.

If they are legitimate, then I will retract the word "far" from my previous post.
