I originally wrote it tongue in cheek, but as I read it through again, it made more sense to me also. It did not make me feel good reflecting about it.
That's why I put no "/sarcasm/" tag with it.
Well, these are "interesting times."
We are in a war as real as W.W.II, at least.
"In my view, the stakes are much higher in the war on terror than in anything we've faced since World War II, and probably World War II as well," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Richard Myers.
Saddled with a 10+ trillion dollar obligation to care for the elderly that could easily hinder our ability to fight a protracted war that some believe will last as long as the Cold War, I am sure that the thought has crossed Washington's mind.
W.W.II leaders let bombs fall on civilians fearing that to intercept the bombers would tip off the enemy that their coded messages were being read. The war effort was far more important.
Is one generation worth more than the Republic itself?
I am positive that both Parties would answer without hesitation, No!
(Never mind that "cheap" labor is worth more than the Republic itself in the minds of those very same leaders willing to sacrifice the "boomers." I couldn't resist the editorializing. :) )
