BAD BERNIE'S LIVID MISTRESS: 'HE'S INSANE & MANIACAL'
nypost.com ^ | Dec. 15, 2004 | ANDREA PEYSER

WHEN titian-haired publish ing titan Judith Regan took up with former top cop Bernard Kerik, she thought she'd met her match. And vice versa.

But the illicit relationship came tumbling down, a friend of Regan's told me, not when she discovered her married lover had another mistress. It ended horribly after Regan learned Kerik's wife was pregnant.

After that jolting discovery, Regan — as volatile, driven and foul-mouthed as any man — began using other words to describe her lover.

"He's maniacal. Insane," a terrified Regan confided in a pal. Kerik, she said, had Regan followed to Los Angeles. He showed up at her house. Threatened her.

Now that Regan has emerged as the final nail in Kerik's bid to serve as chief of Homeland Security, questions are erupting over whether Kerik's admitted mistakes — he once used city cops to research his memoir — extended into even more intimate areas.

One thing is clear: This man had serious issues with impulse control.

The Kerik-Regan pairing may look unlikely — she's Vassar-bred, he's a high-school dropout. But two friends used almost identical terms to describe the duo. "They are male and female versions of the same people," they said of the "power-addicted" couple.

The informative aspect of this is that Guilianni thought nothing of Kerik's peccadilloes. Remember this before elevating Rudi to lead the party in 2008.

They won't quit this until they have destroyed him. And why, when he has withdrawn his name? This media blitz is crazy. Of course the real targets are Bush and Rudy, but it sure seems unfair to continue to trash this one man who has in reality contributed quite a bit in a positive way to our country and Iraq. Let it go, Democrats and media, Please!

Given that Kerik isn't going to be Homeland Security Chief, this is NONE of anyone's business but his and his family's.

Sorry. It's my understanding he thinks only cops should have guns, which makes him just the sort of man to lead NYC's anti-gun police force. I'm simply unable to shed a single tear for him.

No. Kerik is the target. He might as well have painted a bulls-eye on his backside. Same goes for foul mouth Regan.

Guiliani had an obligation to know whether Kerik could withstand scrutiny before he recommended him to the president. Guiliani has let the president down and given himself a huge black eye. Is Kerik indicative of the quality of person we can expect Guiliani to surround himself with should he rise to national office?

She just could not keep her big mouth shut. Judith should just go away.

Because of her big mouth, any new conservative book will be impunged.

Of course he didn't. He would be a hyporcrite if he did.

I, for one, am glad that Kerik was found lacking. He sounds like a whole passel of trouble.

I disagree, the man is a public figure and public figures, unless they are being libeled or slandered, basically have zero right to privacy. You willingly choose to step into the spotlight, then you and, unfortunately, your family have to accept the bad with the good. Plus, all this coming out brings up another important question ... how in the Wide World of Sports did somebody with this kind of background slip through the White House vetting process? I know there are some of you out there who probably wanting this to die down because it makes the White House look bad and gives the Dems some ammo. But I'm sorry, this is simply not acceptable performance from the White House and somebody needs to be called on it so that it doesn't happen again. Given the realities of today's heated and polarized environment, there is no excuse for any White House, of any party or philosophy, to screw the pooch this badly with a nominee.

I can't believe that.

Gonzales checks those type things but the vetting wasn't near complete.... Kerik lied when asked if he had nanny problems. Apparently he may have been less than forthcoming on several items in his colorful past.

This guy deserved a much closer look rather than taking the word of some of his supporters before reaching the point of making the nomination announcement. I suspect future unknowns if any will have more detailed examinations prior to their being announced.

"I can't help it. I'm loving this. Why is that?"

I don't know, if you are like me, its because Bernie seemed to come out of no where and go straight to the top and when you look at his credentials, there's no there there. I think its fun to see a guy who has always been just a bit too big for his britches get taken down a notch. Bernie acts like he has it all together but I think he's a guy who has been playing both sides against the middle for a long time.

Yeah, pretty sad commentary. I would not however, give much credence to anything Judith Regan says. She's a first rate witch and obviously vindictive. Hell and the fury of the scorned woman.......

They could use Kerik for one of those Southwest Airlines "want to get away" commercials. He has got to be wondering why the hell he got himself into this mess.

Guiliani has no social morals of his own so he wouldn't see Kerik's lack as a "problem."
