You know you're from California if:
1. Your coworker has 8 body piercings and none are visible.
2. You make over $100,000 and still can't afford a house.
3. You take a bus and are shocked at two people carrying on a conversation in English.
4. Your child's 3rd-grade teacher has purple hair, a nose ring, and is named Flower.
5. You can't remember . . . . . is pot illegal?
6. You've been to a baby shower that has two mothers and a sperm donor.
7. You have a very strong opinion about where your coffee beans are grown, and you can taste the difference between Sumatran and Ethiopian.
8. You can't remember . . . is pot illegal?
9. A really great parking space can totally move you to tears.
10. Gas costs $1.00 per gallon more than anywhere else in the U.S.
11. The guy at 8:30 am at Starbucks wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses who looks like George Clooney really IS George Clooney.
12. Your car insurance costs as much as your house payment.
13. You pass an elementary school playground and the children are all busy with their cells or pagers.
14. It's barely sprinkling rain outside, so you leave for work an hour early to avoid all the weather-related accidents.
15. Both you AND your dog have therapists.
16. The Terminator is your governor.
17. If you drive illegally, they take your driver's license. If you're here illegally, they want to give you one.
Oh you should go. It's nice. Different and nice. So many nice places for lodging and good food and beautiful silver jewelry displayed on blankets by the Native Americans. You can walk by and all their wares are displayed. It's really neat. Husband bought me a beautiful wide silver bracelet with the four seasons engraved on it. Really nice. He ordered it from the young gentleman (unbeknownst to me) and Christmas morning I opened it and boy, was I surprised. :) Same year I got a Kokopeli Pot rack ordered from there as well. What a great place.
OK...that's it. I will call my brother tomorrow and find out the city and the name of the food place. I'll be bockkkk. :)
Ok...we THINK it is the Seafood Market Restaurant in Channel Island Harbor in Ventura County. I think I made a mistake saying there was an airport by there. That's not tue.
They were sort of like a fish market. Wet floors, people coming and going buying products and taking out. We walked in , placed our orders for clam chowder then walked on through to the dock where we sat at our table. when ready, the chowder was brought to us. Mmmmm, good. You chowder lovers should check it out. :)
I was under the impression your cowder place was in NoCA. Half Moon Bay is halfway between SF & Santa Cruz.
LOL, you got that one right.
My daughter uses that complaint to get a cell phone.
Guess you can't beat the weather most of the time.
Oh and please don't think I am saying bad things about your homestate. I am not. I loved California. hated to leave but Uncle Sam called us away. I loved the sunsets. I loved it in the fall. Well, I guess no place is as it was in 1961 but like I said, California will always have a warm spot in my heart. Always. :) Merry Christmas.
No, Ventura County and we do think it is the Seafood Market on the docks. Guess I didn't make myself clear. I have a way of doing that. :)
You should try Princeton by the Sea sometime. Its just a short jaunt west from SFO & there's some great chowder there, too:)
You are only the 2nd person to comment on the screen name. I want to be different, just like everyone else. ¿May I ask what part of CA are you FReeping from?
Nah. I had a daughter. She wears the same size. Between the two of us we have over 200 pairs of shoes. Four bedroom house. We got PLENTY of room for shoes.
>>Civil War Battle huh? Will check that out.
They call it the "Gettysburg of the West" but compared to Gettysburg, it was pretty dinky. More of a skirmish really, but had important implications for the South as they were trying to drive to California to secure a port outside the blockade.
There is a decent historical novel written around the events leading up to it--"Glorieta Pass" by PG Nagle. "The Battle of Glorieta Pass" by Edrington and Taylor is a good historical account w/o the novel aspects of it. When I worked there they did not offer much on the Civil War aspect of the park as the Park Service had only recently acquired any of the lands where the battle took place.
Yikes.
You win the Emelda Marcos Award for superfluous footwear.
Thanks - we used to do the same thing and I forgot about it until now.
That sounds nice. Like the name too. We did visit Cardiff by the sea when we were in San Diego. We were on a job interview in Rancho Bernardo. Another gorgeous area! Cardiff was wonderful. Sat by the window watching people jogging and walking on the beach and saw the sunset over the water.
Wow, that sounds interesting and our daughter will be most interested. She loves things related to the Civil War. She's not an expert she just is so interested. Standing on the battlefield in Gettysburg was awesome. Same way in Fredericksburg and Shiloh at the Pool of blood. Wow, so many lives lost. It's very sad to stand on the same fields these brave people fought and died upon. You almost feel like you can see and hear what went on for both sides.
