Hallmark seems to have dumped holy Christmas cards. That doesn't mean holy Christmases are out. It just means that HALLMARK does its own thing. It doesn't drive the culture.
Hallmark isn't the arbiter of our culture either. It isn't even a benchmark. Also, with INTERNET cards and e-mail, I think Hallmark is on its way out.
I might be wrong.
So many black Americans are Christians. They MIGHT give Kwanza a try but it's hard to do that when there aren't ANY African cultures who celebrate it. Kwanza fits nowhere except in briefly in the lives of young and/or communist/socialist and/or racist black Americans. It fades fast with education, marriage/children and maturity.
Also, there is no Muslim American black who would celebrate it either. It's anathema to Muslims. Muslims have tremendous respect for Jesus (Issa), the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary. They LIKE Christmas, though they don't believe that Jesus WAS God. So, that cuts out even more black Americans who would take on Kwanza.
Finally, it has NO roots in anything except a racist nut's ravings about an African custom that simply doesn't exist.
Even Hallmark can't boost that loser.
By the way, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Merry Christmas to you. I hope it will go away, but I think it already has become too big for that to happen.
