HBN, WASHINGTON, DC, Tues. Dec. 14: Sen. Hillary Clinton is seemingly taking a hard-line against illegal immigration and is being lauded by Conservatives for the position.
The Washington Times yesterday cited at least two instances in recent weeks, when the New York Senator has stated her tough stance on the issue.
These reportedly include an interview last month on Fox News last month when Clinton said she does not "think that we have protected our borders or our ports or provided our first responders with the resources they need, so we can do more and we can do better."
And in an interview on WABC radio, she said, "I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants," according to the Washington Times.
"Clearly, we have to make some tough decisions as a country, and one of them ought to be coming up with a much better entry-and-exit system so that if we're going to let people in for the work that otherwise would not be done, let's have a system that keeps track of them," the paper quoted her as adding.
Rep. Tom Tancredo, a conservative Colorado Republican, who has been a staunch backer of tighter immigration policies, has taken notice.
"She's not a dumb woman," Tancredo spokesman Carlos Espinoza told the Times. "She's got a great liberal base, and she realizes there's no better way to draw in more conservative voters. She has really come out to the forefront on that."
Meanwhile, in a statement on the passage of The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, Clinton stated, While I look forward to a productive debate on immigration issues in the next Congress, I am pleased that there are a number of key immigration reform provisions in this legislation, including those addressing the process of obtaining U.S. visas.
The move is being viewed by Conservatives as a welcome ploy to pull in more voters from Republican states, should she run for President in 2008. Hardbeatnews.com
That was my reaction too.
Which of course illustrates the most interesting point in all of this: Illegal immigration is a hot-button issue among the public, yet most people in the Washington establishment refuse to do anything about it. Things that make you go Hmmm...
If Bush were really brilliant, he would spend the next 4 years building the oil refinery business with incentives for American companies to move down to Mexico, get their oil up and running and get the business of Oil importing transferred from Saudi Arabia - THAT is how you make Mexico a RICH country and get its own people to flock back south of the border...Mexico sees Republicans as benefactors (thus voting more republican), Americans get cheaper Oil, and Hillary gets screwed (a tri-fecta win!)
You are, unfortunately, correct sir. Remember, there is no bigger BLAMER than Hillary. She is positioning herself for an artificial "I told you so", for the voters to consume if there is another terror tragedy.
(Pray for our troops - this is hard on them.)
The way to do that is to privatize Pemex, which the average mexican will resist to the death apparently.
National pride & 'sovereignty' issue, doncha know.
I like your scenario!
This is exactly what Bubba-trash did when he ran. Hit moderate, and run like hell to the left. She's banking on those who have short term memories, and who are incredibly stupid.
I still sniff something diabolical here. She's full of bovine feces, and will say anything to get elected. Taken straight from the original Bubba play book.
If that continues to be true, America is finished.
Hopefully the internet can save us.
Seems to me that just last week there was a bill before congress that dealt with "intelligence reform".That bill had virtually ALL the anti-illegal immigrant provisions stripped from it by senate conferees.Duncan Hunter took a lot of heat for trying to keep those provisions in.I didn't hear a peep from Clinton.Maybe she figured because the bill didn't have her name on it,she would bide her time so she could get into the spotlight with a bill of her own.She had plenty of time in the past weeks as this legislation was winding it's way through congress. Why did she wait until now? What a calculating woman.
What's funny is that she was quoted as being against illegal "immigrants", not illegal "immigration". If she was Republican, the MSM would be all over this.
"Liar, Liar, Pants On Fire"
Lol! Sheila Jackson-Lee TX scored all "F-" except for three "D"s. Lol.
Thankfully, our President and the Congress are on top of this issue and will have illegal immigration under control in short time.
Good point! Classic Clinton.
