Two days before Pedro Martinez [stats, news] was expected to officially become a New York Met, unconfirmed rumors and erroneous reports about the health of his shoulder dominated the airwaves and Internet chatrooms yesterday.
One false rumor maintained Martinez would not undergo an MRI of his right shoulder and arm, which is standard procedure for any major league pitcher undergoing a physical before signing a new contract. Martinez is scheduled to receive one today under the supervision of Mets team doctor David Altchek in New York.
The MRI exam will be the first performed on Martinez' shoulder since he hurt it in 2001.
A report on ESPN.com said Martinez is suffering from a ``90 percent'' tear in his shoulder labrum, which is a cartilage structure in the joint. Martinez sustained a tear in his rotator cuff in 2001, and that tear still exists since surgery was never performed.

I think Petey is going to find himself left out in the cold. If his shoulder is as tattered as is rumored to be - and the evidence of the MRI is irrefutable - who's going to take a chance on him?
This is why the Mets refuse to comment on whether or not they've signed him.
You need to pass a physical to be AG these days? What is this world coming to!
Looks like Dr. David Altchek is Pedro's Daddy now!
