Mr. Conyers and Jackson will have more of a surprise when another 5-10% of "Black" voters switch to the Republican Party in 2006. With each passing day, more Blacks are realizing being Black, liberal and Democrat ain't where its at!!!

Conyers' supposed hearing is not a committee hearing: the witnesses are all on one side of an issue; few are genuine fact witnesses; they are not subject to cross examination by anyone with opposing opinions; and the session does not become part of the official legislative record. Conyers' undertaking is an NAACP and Move On press conference and gripe session with a friendly Congressman and a court reporter for the sake of pretending. Conyers likely dipped into his office budget for the undertaking.

Experience long ago showed that it is better to ignore these sorts of things than to try to quash them. For a time, Congress had gag rules that limited the filing and consideration of antislavery measures, so slavery opponents contrived various stunts such as mass petitions and sham hearings that violated or infringed the rules. They then gloried in defiance of the rules or put on martyrs' clothes when the rules were enforced. In the end, Congress dropped gag rules as counterproductive because they added infringement of the right to petition to the case against slavery.

In the end, it is better to let Conyers and others spin their wheels with this sort of silliness, which agitates and occupies their supporters but does not gain new adherents. Meanwhile, we should direct our attention to running Congress and the rest of the country and consolidating our majority. If that recommendation is unconvincing, then try getting a group of your friends together to put on your own hearings. I defy anyone with a lick of sense to make the attempt with a straight face.
