WASHINGTON -- Former Indiana Rep. Tim Roemer said Tuesday that he is considering whether to join the race for Democratic National Committee chairman.
At least eight other potential candidates have been exploring the job, which becomes available in February when Chairman Terry McAuliffe leaves. The decision will be made by a vote of the nearly 450 DNC members.
Roemer, president of the nonprofit Center for National Policy, served in Congress from 1991 through 2002. He also served on the Sept. 11 commission that investigated the 2001 terror attacks.
In a statement, Roemer said several prominent Democrats have asked him to consider leading the party. He said he is consulting with family and friends and will make a decision soon.
We're all for Howard Dean around here. This is a Howard Dean site. Just ask around.
If this happens, keep your eye on Senator Evan Bayh (also of Indiana) as the Democratic nominee for 2008,
The DUers hate Roemers, because it seems he's not leftist enough for their standard. Good. Join other party, like Green, etc...
I hope the dems do nominate Bayh, they'd be smart to do so. I don't know much about him but the little I do, he seems like a good pick, at least on the surface--former governor(from a Midwestern state no less), moderate, articulate, personable, attractive. I just hope they don't run that furrowed-face Frankenstein face Kerry again!
Plug Dean for the chairmanship. Ignore the people who could actually help the Rats.
This may be good news. He's not wacky enough for the DUmmies.
The last thing we need is a moderate to drag the Democrats toward the center.
Yep, and the far left in power, particularly Reid and Pelosi, is pushing to get Roemer as chair of the party.
Kerry was one of the worst candidates on record. His entire candidacy was based on a "don't vote for the other guy" strategy, which fell apart when people saw him up close (and that disaster of a wife). No serious people ($$$) would support his candidacy again.
The Kerry Factor (as I will call it) will likely sideline the Beast, and open the door for a moderate Democrat with strong military voting credentials and the ability to guarantee the delivery of 11 Red State electoral votes (he actually polled better in Indiana than Bush--and Indiana was one of his best states).
The smart money is on Evan Bayh, especially if Roemer moves up.
