OK, I've read about the Compromise of 1850. And yes, Lincoln wasn't president then. That he had no part in the Compromise does not prove he was a staunch defender of States Rights.
Now, perhaps you can go back to your history books and look for a particular section commonly referred to as "THE CIVIL WAR".
