Two mortar shells fell on agricultural hothouses in the Ganei Tal settlement in Gush Katif early Tuesday evening killing a female Thai worker. Two other Thai workers were lightly wounded in the attack.
The workers were evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
Shortly after the mortars landed, Palestinians fired another mortar shell at an IDF post near Ganei Tal. IDF soldiers returned fire in both incidents.
Earlier Tuesday, four mortar shells fell on an industrial area in the Gush Katif settlement block.
No injuries or damages were reported in that incident.
Palestinians fired five mortars at the settlement of Ganei Tal on Monday morning.
A worker from Thailand, Nanug Kassem Partiff, 24, was shot and killed when three armed terrorists infiltrated the hothouse area of Kfar Darom in the central Gaza Strip in October. In June, another worker from Thailand was killed by a mortar shell.
Following the October attack that killed Partiff, Thai Ambassador Kasivat Paruggamanont said, "this confirms our conviction that, as we have been saying, it's true, that it's dangerous [in Gaza]. We have been telling everybody that we don't want to see a second Thai worker killed, but it happened again. They just don't listen. There are many places in Israel where foreign workers can work, just not in Gaza."
He said that he had discussed with Foreign Ministry officials the possibility of evacuating workers from the Gaza Strip settlements
IDF shoots at 3 Palestinians crawling towards Philadelphi route, killing one
One Palestinian was killed and one other was wounded by IDF gunfire when soldiers opened fire on three Palestinians spotted crawling towards the Philadelphi route near Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip Tuesday evening.
The troops opened fire on the Palestinians fearing that the three planned to attack a nearby IDF post or attempt to smuggle weapons from Egypt into the Palestinian territories, and identified hitting two of the gunmen.
After the incident Palestinians reported that one Palestinian policeman was killed and another wounded while they were walking down the street of the A-Salem neighborhood of Rafah, which is located near the Philadelphi route.
Regarding the reports, IDF spokesmen said that the only incident in which soldiers opened fire on Tuesday evening was at the three gunmen crawling in a restricted area towards an IDf post and not as the reports claimed at people walking in the street.
IDF intercept suitcase full of explosives
A suitcase loaded with explosives hidden in a wardrobe was intercepted by the IDF and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) last Sunday at the Hawara roadblock outside Nablus.
The wardrobe, which was loaded onto a truck belonging to a transportation company, was hidden in an inner compartment situated under the carriage.
The investigation into the incident revealed that the explosive device was intended to carry out a suicide attack in the center of the country.
Hisham Swaykha, a resident of Nablus, was arrested at the A-Ram roadblock north of Jerusalem for his involvement in the planning of the suicide bombing. Swaykha was waiting to receive the suitcase of explosives at A-Ram when he was arrested. He planned to collect the case and pass it on to a suicide bomber.
Swaykha told his interrogators that Jamil Foukha, a wanted Tanzim fugitive who lives in Nablus, masterminded the attack. Foukha was a close associate of Majdi Marai, 23, of Nablus, the local commander of the Aksa Martyrs Brigades. Marai was killed on November 2 during an IDF operation to arrest him and two other senior Tanzim fugitives in Nablus.
I see the Palestinians haven't wasted any time using that $20 million W gave them for "utilities". I guess their credit is good again.
