Steyn is so very, very good at what he does.

His eye for the ironic is never sharper than when he points out that the very same people who want to freeze the non-human world in precisely its present form (literally, a 'conservative' position) are also the people who want to mold the human world into a shape that it's never before had, the shape defined by 'transnational progressivism' ('liberalism' gone globally amuck).

But these two positions are really two sides of a single agenda:  restrict the power of humans to do what certain elites believe to be harmful to the non-human world and to humans. And, gosh, if we had any reason to believe that these elites knew what they were talking about, we would be well-advised to do what they urge us to do; but since we don't, we shouldn't.
