The libs are relentless.
This became topic A on C-SPAN this morning.
And surprise....the homeless emerged from hibernation
as another reason to cancel the Inaugral Ball.

Show of hands: anyone believe that the stated reason for this suggestion is the real reason?

Anybody?

No?

Me, neither.

Bush would show a keen sensitivity toward the situation of his soldiers

The preservation of America, and its traditions, is what these brave young men and women are fighting for, but we can't expect the left to understand that.

We hardly got to celebrate his election the first time and now they want us to "sacrifice" celebrating the second time.

I am deeply offended.

Franklin D. Roosevelt skipped them during the Depression and World War II.

Well duh! Everyone know Franklin didn't like to dance. ;~))

Interesting that the 'Rats never suggested that Clinton cancel any of his parties. Were there no troops stationed overseas during that time? What, did all the homeless automatically find decent housing the second Clinton became President? Oh, that's right, I forgot, they did, there was no problem with homelessness during the Clinton regime. That's only a problem during Republican administrations, since they cause it (/sarcasm).

If the balls had been canceled the libs in the Washington social set would moan about how boring the city has become since the President has arrived.

That symbolism would be far greater than the grandest of balls.

Rush is so right about these people.

Somehow, I don't think our soldiers, sailor, airmen and Marines will begrudge the President his Inaugural Balls. Only petty, spiteful liberals who are still pi$$ed that their guy couldn't muster the votes want them cancelled.

I hate it when non-Americans like the Democrats meddle in our domestic affairs. The United Nations building should be converted into the new Ellis Island with the traitor Slick Willie as the manager. This time it will be to Europe and not from it. AAAALLLLLL ABOARD!

Korean War: President Truman did not skip the Inaugural Ball.

Vietnam War: President LBJ did not skip the Inaugural Ball.

Bosnian War: President Clinton did not skip the Inaugural Ball.

Had Kerry won......?

Good point.

Had Kerry won, these same people would be calling for a major ball, perhaps the biggest in history. They would be saying how we "truly have something to celebrate with the new Kerry presidency!" and how the triumph of the political will of the American people is always a matter for celebration.

One is want to think that the "tragedy" they believe should prevent President Bush from holding a major ball is his own reelection.

I hope it is a grand affair.

Numerous presidents have shunned them since the first official ball was held in 1809 for James Madison.

Franklin Pierce declined to celebrate while mourning the fresh loss of his son in 1853. Franklin D. Roosevelt skipped them during the Depression and World War II.

Numerous or two?

If a Dem were in power, the Perspirer would never have coughed up this hairball. Once again, transparent partisanship masquerades as "principle" among the liberals.

A far more important "gesture" would be the left laying off criticizing a sitting President's foreign policy at a time of war. But with today's slimy leftist weasels, there's no way that would happen.
