This is why American support is so critical to Israel. Only with America firmly behind us can we stand up to the so-called "world community", the majority of which would be perfectly content to see us destroyed.
Where I disagree with the author is regarding Prime Minister Sharon's disengagement policy. It should be easier to wall off and contain the terrorists in Gaza than to have them in our midst as we try to live in Gaza in small numbers. This is fundamentally different than southern Lebanon where we had no ability to control who came and went and had to rely on compliance with a U.N. resolution by Syria and Lebanon.
Side note: Isn't it amazing how Syria and Lebanon's non-compliance with Resolution 425 is ignored by the U.N.? Only if Israel does something other than the interpretation-du-jour of a resolution is it worth discussing.
Dear Anotherview,
You said it! I've believed that US support for Israel is vital for both countries for as many years as I can remember. We must both stand with each other, for the "world community" hates us both, and has for many years.

Ain't it the truth! The way the UN singles out Israel and the US has bugged me for years, and has been the main reason why I've believed for a long time that the US should get out of the UN and kick the UN out of the US. When I see how Israel does something other than the interpretation-of-the-moment, the coyotes howl bloody murder, but if the coyotes do whatever its another story. It reminds me of the old saying from Orwell's "Animal Farm" - Four legs good, two legs bad.
