A shakeout is afoot in the world of urban apparel, as sales of once red-hot labels begin to cool, analysts and industry executives said. The across-the-board slowdown is alarming some of the major department-store retailers that had allocated a growing amount of space to these brands on the belief that the double-digit sales growth of recent years would continue, sources said.
Federated Department Stores, which operates the Macy's and Bloomingdale's chains, for instance, is seeing recent sales of urban brands decline in the double digits, compared with year-ago levels, said one person, who added: "It has everyone worried."

Meanwhile, demand for the oversized jerseys and baggy jeans that these lines were known for dwindled, as classic looks regained popularity.

"What we had at retail," admits Ullmann, Phat Fashion's president, "was too urban."

Thats amazing when you think about it. In my case I wore 501's as dress jeans and have very rarely in my life needed to wear anything but jeans. So I have been purchasing 501s since I was about 13 till 43. All that time and Levi is willing to throw it all away and support something that could have been avoided. How many products have that kind of buyer loyalty?
I stopped and have tried other jeans but I am tired of it. Dickies are ok but they wear out fast. I dont care for the wrangler fit and have yet to try lees.
But I am sure there are millions of people like me who have worn them all their life. Thats one made in america (not anymore) product I would pay more for and continue to support. I guess they were not getting enough sells and had to switch to other measures to sell stuff to the young generation.
Lee Ann Tweeden? Picture?
MTV is long gone dead and hip-hop is the least of its worries. Its corporate owners view it strictly as a mind-control ray for political indoctrination. That, combined with its 'reality' shows (carefully staged, of course) has moved the U-S-I-C from Music Television.
I honestly prefer music the good old fashioned way with no visuals - I listen to the satellite channel feeds and Netscape radio quite often while reading or working and I am surprised at how many bands/songs I am interested in.
All I got was an Alabama Flag.
Shows up fine for me. Cut 'n paste the URL.
That is one good looking woman. What show is she on? Dang! I popped a fuse and the main breaker.
She used to have an exercise show; I'm not sure about now. I think she makes appearances on the sports talk shows (her bf is Marlins pitcher Josh Beckett). Plus, she's a Republican. :)
I like women that look like women. She is a real woman and her bf is a lucky dude. My wife is a real woman too and I am sending her this URL and threaten to replace her if she isn't careful. She will kick my butt!
The thing is, I hardly remember any parts of the story, including the major characters/cast.
I think I was thirteen or fourteen when I watched it.
One of the more amusing anecdotes in his most recent book involved meeting a group of young men who looked like they were on a weekend furlough program from a state penitentiary.
In addition to sponsoring anti-gun causes, Levi's also supports the Homosexual agenda. Levis Strauss Co. was involved in the effort to force the Boy Scouts of America to accept homosexual Scout leaders.
If you want to support the left-wing/homosexual agenda with your dollars, that's your business....but don't expect to get a free pass about it on this Conservative forum.
There goes my collection. Maybe disco will come back.
Thanks for the support but I haven't even been scratched yet. I reckon many folks don't care if their dollars go to support the leftist/homosexual agenda. Kinda suprising to see it here on FreeRepublic though. Maybe they should go read Jim Robinson's mission statement.
Fizzle? Shizzle....
That's what I call military contractors. BTW...I noticed you put a disclaimer on your homepage about what you do in Iraq. If I hadn't called you on it months ago I doubt you'd have mentioned it. I guess you were enjoying all the Kudos for your "service" in Iraq.
That's right. In addition to supporting the anti-gun and homosexual agenda, Levi's are mad in communist Red China.
Whadju say? I be zonin' wif my homeBOYZ!
