The Left's Delusion
By Jennifer King
December 13, 2004

Reality appears to have taken a wide detour away from most mainstream liberals. Their stunning electoral losses appear to have not impacted their belief system in the slightest, proving once again that their liberalism is their religion and that they cling to it more stubbornly than the most devoted evangelical ever would.

In Ohio, a state that President Bush won by 119,000 votes, the discredited Jesse Jackson is nevertheless refusing to concede. "It ain't over", Jackson declared at an event called, "Preserving Democracy: What Went Wrong in Ohio". This panel, chaired by the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee Representative John Conyers, was held at the Rayburn building and included a motley group of the usual suspects including Ralph Neas of PFAW, Hilary Shelton of the NAACP and U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee - best known for insisting that the Mars rover should look for the American flag on Mars "planted there in 1969 by our astronauts".

Allegations posited at the forum included malfunctioning voting machines, misinformation and long lines at the polls. Ms. Shelton complained that African-Americans were sent flyers which told them to vote on November 4th. Jackson, reaffirming that, "This election is not over until all the votes are counted", pledged to make sure that every discrepancy was thoroughly investigated. John Kerry sent a statement of cautious support and outgoing DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe pledged the backing of that organization. McAuliffe further noted that the investigation was "unlikely to overturn the results of this election." Nevertheless, the news was greeted with breathless excitement by the lefties who inhabit sites like the Democratic Underground and they were soon reveling in fantasies about Kerry making a dramatic coup and becoming President after all. Undoubtedly, this is all meant strictly to undermine Bush's mandate and provide for four more years of self-pitying angst among those on the left.

Then, there was Condi Rice. Her proposed appointment as Secretary of State sent the Left into spasms of horror. For decades, we have listened to legions of sanctimonious Democrats lecture us about their moral superiority on civil rights. Abruptly, this carefully nourished façade was finally stripped away to reveal the Bull Conner beneath. Dr. Rice, a highly accomplished denizen of academia, a renowned classical concert pianist and a former Stanford provost was reduced - by editorial cartoonists - to a pickinniny, a wide-lipped parrot to George W. Bush's Svengali and a "brown sugar" "sweetie" to GWB with all those inherently nasty slave/owner connotations. One obnoxious radio host even called her "Aunt Jemima" and, when called on it, smarmily offered to give out pancake mix as a panacea to his outraged listeners. Not to be bested, the new Minority Leader, Harry Reid, said that Supreme Court Justice's Clarence Thomas' opinions were "poorly written". Reid further suggested that Justice Thomas was an "embarrassment" to the court and intimated that - should GW Bush have the unbelievable audacity to appoint Justice Thomas to Chief Justice that the Democrats would heartily oppose him. The obstructionists are back, barring the schoolhouse door just like before.

The other prong of the cultural blitzkrieg is the ACLU. Empowered by - what else - money, the ACLU is successfully using United States Code 42, Section 1988, to collect thousands of dollars in lawyer's fees from local governments that it sues. When the ACLU sued Judge Roy Moore over the Ten Commandments, taxpayers in Alabama were ordered to pay an estimated "half a million dollars" to the ACLU. In effect, taxpayers are paying to promote causes they vehemently oppose! Fortunately, several people are attempting to change this. Craig McCarthy, of CourtZero.org, has established a petition urging Congress to cut this misuse of taxpayer monies. The Liberty Counsel is likewise working towards this end. It is absurd that taxpayers should have their hard earned money going towards projects like removing the town hall crèche at Christmas and forcing the Boy Scouts to accept openly homosexual leaders. Let the lefties pay for their pet causes, and see how long they succeed without taxpayer funds.

It is hilarious to see how shrill and hysterical the editorial pages of the newspapers have become, as they continue to support these outrageous causes and as they subsequently lose readership, advertising and subscribers. Their retort is that their customers are "dumb", "uneducated" and "unsophisticated". What a great business model! Look for it to continue for an indefinite period, until harsh reality sets in.

Kinda wish the GOP would spend less time on the "Left's Delusions" and more time doing what they are elected to do, like secure the borders, reduce the size of government, deport illegal aliens, and win the war on terror.

We know they're delusional, now go back to work.

You better hope they continue to focus on the Dems delusions, at least long enough to take the money away from the ACLU. Other wise any laws we pass about imigration or anything else will be subject to lawsuit from these creeps. Take the money away from the ACLU and then worry about the rest of it.

Speaking of the ACLU, you can add 'standing up for their judicial nominees' to the list, too.

The question is whether we can defeat the enemy without, without first defeating the enemy within.

As it is, we're having to fight both battles at once.
Defeating terrorism and closing the borders would be *a lot* easier if we could destroy the Left in this country first.

I'd maintain that in doing the work that needs to be done, you will defeat the 'enemy within' by starving him of his ammunition. Nothing succeeds like success. It exposes the Left for he fools they are.

good points. As a native Californian, I totally agree about the borders. They are real wussies on implementing a feasible strategy.

I don't think it's possible to destroy the Left anymore than it was possible to stifle dissension in the Soviet Union. The best you can how to do is expose it for what it is. and the best way to do that is to shatter their arguments by results. Welfare reform is a good example of what I'm talking about. Rhetorical combat isn't nearly as effective as tangible results.

The enemy within can be defeated by doing a better job of 'selling' the logic, reason, and benefits of the conservative agenda - a positive approach rather than a negative one. in other terms, given a Bill Bennett or Michael Savage, I'd maintain that Bill Bennett is a much better recruiter for the conservative cause.
