I predict a sentence of death, which will mean that Peterson will continue to cost California taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars for years to come. A representative of SQ Prison was on TV last week and said that it takes a MINIMUM of 10 years for the California Supreme Court to affirm a death sentence. And then, even if the state Supreme Court upholds a death sentence, the federal appeals begin.

Today, Court TV reported that a death row inmate in California is more likely to die of natural causes than be executed and is more likely to die of suicide than execution. I believe that only 10 inmates have been executed in California since SCOTUS reinstated the death penalty.

As an aside, comedian Ron White (They Call Me Tater Salad) says during his routine that while it takes forever to execute someone in many states, his state, Texas, is putting in an "express lane" for executions.
