If Intel, IBM, and AMD get out of the CPU business, then I'll be worried.

As American entities...it's coming...and sooner than you think. So the time to be worried isn't then, it was a long time ago. These kinds of economic Perfect Storms that will strip the U.S. of its key industries are not accidental. They are by Chinese design.

Interesting thought...and the sad/ironic thing is, competition between AMD and Intel drove the price of PCs down to the point where profit margins began to disappear, and costs such as labor became more of a factor. I do think AMD, Intel, IBM, etc., can keep their core markets for a long time, because while you can throw together a quick PC company, you can't throw together a quick CPU company, although since Sony and Toshiba have been developing or co-developing CPUs, it makes things interesting.
