You missed the point - the fact that its dioxin means its unlikely its a hit. "The sources say that if Yushchenko's opponents had decided to poison him, they could have used much deadlier and non-recognizable poisons, which are easily available for secret services in several countries in the world."

"His symptoms included severe inflammation of the stomach, colon, pancreas and liver enlargement, as well as paralysis of facial nerves."
Just one possibility... Fish, which can also contain large amounts of dioxine, and toxins in addition:
Ciguatera Fish Poisoning
http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/tmp-pmv/2002/ciguat_e.html
Worldwide about 25,000 cases are reported annually
Ciguatera fish poisoning presents with both gastrointestinal and neurologic symptoms. Symptoms generally arise 1 to 6 hours after eating contaminated fish, and may increase in severity over the next few hours. Typical symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, hot-cold sensation reversal, tingling sensation in the mouth or legs, as well as pain or weakness in the legs. The symptoms of ciguatera fish poisoning can be exacerbated by the consumption of alcohol and nuts.
Ciguatera poisoning is usually self-limiting, and signs of poisoning often subside within several days from onset. However, in severe cases the neurological symptoms are known to persist from weeks to months. In severe cases, death may occur.
At this time there are no clinical tests to diagnose ciguatera in humans. However, diagnosis can be confirmed by testing the fish for toxins. Treatment, when needed, is largely supportive and symptomatic.

This was my first thought on the subject. Given the availability of ricin and so many other undetectable poisons why would they use such a primitive weapon and more importantly why would they have failed?

As for Kool-Aid, Good Old Boy Jim Jones knew how to spike the stuff and he was an amateur!

And you carry the EUs water, you Chirac lover.
Let me know how using a useless poison like this points to Russia? Like some Redneck using windex to poison someone's coffee. Russians are not pikers when it comes to posion - remember how the poisoned Khattab with a letter?
On al-Qaeda's number one warrior the Russians kill with a super high tech poison but on this Ukranian next door they use what amounts to windex.

Given the availability of ricin and so many other undetectable poisons why would they use such a primitive weapon and more importantly why would they have failed? If there was some chicanery, you're presuming they're intent was to kill Yuschenko(sp). Not necessarily so. The almost debilitating effects of dioxin should have taken him out of the race. And dioxin could presumably be explained away exactly as the "security" people are doing......bad fish, inadvertant exposure, yadda yadda.

There is a flaw to your theory - the amounts used to cripple him would be so much that it could not be explained away as dioxin from contaminated fish ect.
For dioxin to do what it did (dioxin is in almost everything including your burnt toast) it has to be in huge amounts.
I can think of better things to knock one out - like rat poison - it thins the blood - can't be detected and makes it seem ou had a stroke.
It is what many think was used to bump off Stalin.

This "story" smells really bad, malicious disinformation put forward by shills and repeated by fools. It's not even worth pointing out all the logical holes in it. I'll just remark that the defense "accused bad guy X couldn't have done bad thing Y because X is much too smart to do Y in such an obvious way" is almost universally a sign that X is guilty, and remind everyone on this thread that YUSHCHENKO'S ILLNESS WAS A FRIGGING MYSTERY FOR MONTHS, and to claim now that it was "obvious" and "too simple" is disgustingly disingenuous.

Possible, but I suppose the bottom line is that we don't even know for sure if the dioxin poisoning diagnosis is correct do we? I suspect there's some political intrigue afoot, and I'd also be willing to bet we'll probably never get to see the whole picture.
