I'm a scientist, and I know about getting funding :-)
I'm not saying whether or not this guy is right or wrong, but maybe he's trying to get funding by phrasing his research in a way that the Bush administration will understand it?
Anyway, I'm still gonna drive my Hummer no matter what anyone says ;-)

This stuff is old news. Psychologists have been watching and chronicling group hysteria for decades. It seems to be ageless and its followers,almost always led by charismatic spell-binder leader types, cling on to their silly obssessions even long after the great event fails to happen.
Sort of like the Demoscats and the recent election.
