....well supposedly....when all these fat a$$ed boomers start to retire....we're going to need tens of thousands more nurses. I would rather have highly educated LEGAL immigrants coming into the States than another country's riff-raff stroll over our borders ILLEGALLY.

....probably because some states are in such a rush to hop on the "illegal" bandwagon and fork over money to pay for ILLEGALS to get a college education...at the expense of US taxpayers, of course. If you're a US citizen, you're at the end of the line.

I agree with your post #30. Philli's are among the FEW peoples out there that still have a high opinion of the US...and are our friends....despite what political maneuvering may have happened in Philli over the last 10 years. They WANT to "be a part of the American Dream".

Why not create more programs if there is a nursing shortage?
I am normally a free marketer, but in this case I agree with you.
The baby boomers are aging, why not try to get out in front of this looming crises and increase the training facilities and teachers.

Would never work.
The idea is way to good and simple.
Would solve a problem. As I have said in previous posts. Why train our own doctors and nurses when we can import them from India, Middle East or the Philippines. Just another excuse for the dumbing down of America by our liberal friends.
Nurses do make good money but the work is very hard and not for everyone. For those who don't think so try cleaning the bottom of an elderly person with diarrhea a few times before passing judgment.
It takes a special kind of person to be a nurse or a doctor. Good luck in getting your license and hope some day to meet you on rounds.

Ah, the Phillipines, providing the US with mail order brides and nurses since 1947.

This is stupid....we got guys coming back wounded from the war....
Filipina Nurses are great...some of the best if not the best in the world....
No one would take any better care of guys and they are easy on the eyes as well....
The VA should be hiring them as well as the military hosptials
IMO

I sat with my mother in her room after she had knee replacement surgery. I was at UMass Med Center. She tolerated the surgery ok but started having chest discomfort. ( more like severe sharp pains and trouble breathing) I went to the nurses station and a nurse followed me back. She was Philippine nurse ( I think) and she asked my mother if she had a heart condition and was making small talk. I asked her to call the MD on duty ASAP. She looked at me and was slow to react. I went to the desk and got the charge nurse to summon the MD.
The MD walked in and told them all to get that bed out the door and to ICU. My mother had a blood clot moving and it was in her lung. They started meds and she made it through even after her confusion and brain involvement. This RN had no clue what could have been happening. She was poorly trained and clueless.
After they got her to ICU they tossed her from her private room and handed me a trash bag for her belongings. This was at midnight. Hospitals have become places where you need to take an advocate and guard. I hate to say it but many hospitals have become places where a family member needs to be on hand to protect their loved ones.
