Same as always, greedy and inconsiderate, to boot. Always looking for a way to scam the system and take money they haven't earned.
I feel like that some days...
"Because the gold and silver can be left without inheritance taxes"
NONSENSE! Estate taxes apply to the entire estate, even the decedents clothes are counted. I suppose this fellow means that he can get away with defrauding the IRS, which I wouldn't recommend.
"Don Stott [THE AUTHOR OF THIS CRAP] has been a precious metals broker since 1977, has written five books, hundreds of columns, and his web site is www.coloradogold.com"
I filled in "The Author of this crap"...this guy SELLS gold and silver coins. No wonder he's so gung ho about "saving his inheritance" via gold and silver. LOL!
I've met people like him...the second they hear there's a death in the family, they're there to see what they can scavage.
Here's another way of looking at this...
My son went to college and got financial aid from the federal govt. He got $3,000 for one year of college.
During that year he earned and saved $8,000.
For his second year of school they dropped the aid to $1,000.
But his roomate spent his $8,000 he earned. He got the $3,000 in aid for his second year.
The system punishes the wise person that saves for his/her future. The system rewards the idiots that squander their earnings.
My father was very frugal, saved and invested his money, and can now afford to live in this facility without being dependent on Medicare.
The message that I got is that I put as much as possible into my 401(k) so that when I am too incapacitated by age or health to live alone I can live in as wonderful a facility as my father. He gets excellent nursing care, and as much or as little other care as he needs. His meals are prepared. He is driven to doctor's appointments.
I'm going to visit him next weekend and will try to scope out some "hot babes" for him. (The last time I visited a woman invited both of us to look at her doll collection. My Dad's first question: "Who are you leaving them to when you die?") Anyway, he is quite the character.
My father would have zero interest in coming to live with me or my brother. He much prefers the attention of his pretty nurses. Go figure!
You appear to be a moron. All he wants is for people to understand the system.
Whatever choices they make then are none of your business.
I understand the system fully. In fact I work in a nursing home. The guy is a greedy s**t in my opinion.
LOL
All your base are belong to me!
I still haven't read the article. bump for later read.
Not long ago, there was a piece on Fox that said that the elderly could live on a cruise ship, with all its amenities, for the same price as being in a nursing home. I really think we could be a lot more creative about how we take care of the elderly. I like the Scandanavian idea of a "Grandmother House", a small portable home that the government puts on your lot for your parent to live in. When it is no longer needed, you turn it back in and someone else uses it. That would be quite a savings for those who just need "minding", rather than have these unfortunate souls trapped in a nursing home at $1000/wk. I hope the Lord calls me to heaven as I'm working in my flower bed, with no expensive medical stops in between.
If you don't like the system, change the system.
I'm not the one that's complaining. The author is. I feel no need at all to change the system. If people have money to pay for their care they should. Their kids should also not bitch about their parents spending their inheritance. As I said in my original post it is not your money until your parents pass on. It should go for the parent's use first since they earned it. If there is nothing left over well, too bad. It is not my responsibility as a taxpayer to pick up the cost for people who can afford to help themselves.
