INHOFE SAYS INTELLIGENCE REFORM BILL OVERLOOKS MAJOR ISSUES

Wednesday, December 8, 2004

WASHINGTON--U.S. Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.) today voted against the final passage of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (S.2845), which was eventually approved by the Senate (89-2).

"Today I joined the majority of our Oklahoma delegation in voting against the final passage of this bill," Inhofe said. "While there where many provisions I agreed with, unfortunately there were also glaring omissions that where impossible to overlook and caused me to oppose final passage.

"Stripped from the final version of this bill were five provisions that I felt were absolutely imperative to include in this reform package. Once you pass a bill, you lose your leverage to get those things that were controversial back in the bill. I do not have any doubt that the Speaker would bring this up at the beginning of the next Congress, but I have serious doubts that once passed in the House that those five areas that I have outlined would be corrected in the Senate. "Many people would be outraged to know that there is a 3.5 mile gap in our fence line with Mexico that exists solely to preserve the environment of five birds that are protected by the Endangered Species Act. The provision in the bill to patch this hole was removed because apparently repairing our border will disturb these five animals."

Senator Inhofe also expressed dismay that the following provisions were removed from the original version of this legislation:

* Electronic Confirmation by State DMVs of the Validity of Other States' Driver's Licenses and Driver Information.

* Anti-Trafficking Provision that Adds to the Existing Criminal Code Regarding the Sale of ID Counterfeiting Technology and Information. * A Requirement for Proof of Lawful Presence in the United States. * Temporary Driver's License requirements that State Visas and similar Documents Should Expire on the Same Date as Temporary Licenses. * Restriction on a State's Ability to Accept Foreign Documents like the Matricula for Driver's Licenses.

Uh read his comments again, JAS.

Inhofe is criticizing Senate democrats, who to some on FR seem to have a free pass, after all the people you pinged in your reply #2 save their barbs for Bush and the Republicans and never have a critical word to say about the democrats.

I'm not going to waste my time (I work for a living) going back to prove you are wrong about the criticism of democrats over this bill. I'm sure you can read and find them your self. I would appreciate if you would keep your remarks, well, truthful, would be nice.

Intel Reform Billl = A wonder of bipartisanship between BUSH and TED KENNEDY, SHCUMER, BOXER, PELOSI. Remember, good reforms can only be achieved with the support from both sides of the aisle. It doesn't matter if illegals keep on registering to vote; just like 8 of the 19 hijacked were also voters. Bipartisanship is paramount; national security be damned.

THANK YOU PRESIDENT BUSH

"Nice" is a not a word in the one issue immigration lobby's vocabulary on FR, from my experience.

I have been called some nasty things for just pointing some things out.

Thank you for saying that my post #4 was truthful and the best of success to you in your future endeavors and congratulate you for working hard and staying off the govt. teet.

Can you name the last thoroughly ''bipartisan'' bill from the Regress that didn't end up being either a disaster or a Trojan Horse?

I certainly can't.

If such a bill ever comes about, it will probably be the first one Pres. Bush will veto. He hasn't used that veto power once. Is that a record?

And have all those 9/11 families plastered on the morning TV shows, saying Bush is dissing them, yada, yada, yada, because he was being an obstructionist, yada, yada, yada.

American politics is chess with the added enemy on the board called the mainstream media for those on the right side of the board.

Sensennbrenner's proposal is coming up early in the next Congress and Inhofe put out the warning that Senate democrats are the ones who are going to try to torpedo it.

JMO, maybe you all should focus your energies on the Senate democrats, instead at President Bush and the Republicans.

Can't believe what is going on inside the BELTWAY. I think Mr Bush should nominate the following people:

1. Elton John (Sec. of Health and Human Services)

2. Snoop Doggy Dog (Attorney General)

3. Al-Zawahiri (Intelligence Czar)

4. Osama Bin-Laden (Dir. of Homeland Security)

5. Larry Flynt (Chairman of FCC)

etc.
