a 'white man sporting a thick mustache' and believed to be of Eastern European extraction
Maybe Chechen?
The local Kenyan media seems to think he's Yugoslavian. I wonder if this place is still even on the map now?
2) It is not a traditional terrorist training ground.
3)The article itself says that the training ground is in (and i quote) " Southern Somalia, near the Kenyan border.' It is NOT in Kenya, just as an hombre selling tacos in Tijuana is not in the US.
4)It has been the target of several terrorist attacks. All of these attacks have primary been due to Kenya having a western orientation, meaning many foreigners and international companies, and obvioulsy having security that is not the most robust in the world. In essence implying that there are a plethora of viable targets melded with a derth of security. Simply put a rather good target.
5)As for the attacks there was one at the Stanley hotel during the 80s (some say as a reprisal for aiding Israel during the Entebbe raid), obviously the Nairobi attacks on the US embassy (due to a large western target), and the attempts on an Israeli airliner 2 years or so ago (due to the fact that many Israeli tourists go to Kenya).
6) Although Kenya has taken steps to have a more potent aegis of security around it (eg more soldiers at the borders, a shoot-to-kill policy for any inflitrators etc) it still has a problem since it has nations like the Sudan and Somalia bordering it (and those nations are cesspools of Islamic dregs), and it has a small but vocal muslim minority within its borders (Muslims are around 10% of the total population, but like the ones in Michigan they seem to feel like they are owed something. Christians are around 80% of the population ....a mix of both protestants and catholics ....and the remainder are mostly a strong hindu bunch that immigrated to Kenya in the late part of the nineteenth century and early part of the twentieth).
