Why is it that ethics, New York and Cop never seem to go together?

I don't see why this should be such a problem since they don't have a problem with illegal immigration.

What always surprises me is that the power elite who are in the top echelons of their profession delegate their children's welfare to someone who is not even a citizen. Seems to speak badly for them as parents let alone as citizens avoiding tax law.

Part of the legacy from the years of the regime of the "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001". Several nominees to Cabinet level posts and administrative positions were withdrawn in those years because of a "nanny problem", illegals who were employed and for whom no payments were being made to FICA on a timely basis. This established a precedent, which is another example of political correctness once again carried too far.

"What did this person know, and when did he (or she) know it?"

Once, it was entirely possible that an employer might NOT have known the status of a foreign-born employee, and it was not all that uncommon for a domestic servant to not have Social Security funds withheld from pay and forwarded to the US Treasury, a requirement easily overlooked by someone who casually employed only one or a few people for domestic purposes in a year.

Last night's news was that Kerik was withdrawing his nomination because of an illegal immigrant nanny problem
(didn't pay taxes, didn't know she was illegal, etc.) , very much like the Linda Chavez problem when Bush nominated her
nearly four years ago. The stock options/conflict of interest thing was mentioned as an afterthought or a secondary consideration. Of course, the war profiteering
(let's call it what it is) is the PRIMARY reason for the withdrawal. And it's not "the appearance of impropriety, it IS impropriety. If this man EVER wanted higher office, he should have stayed away from this blatant kind of "investment". This is about as bad as it gets. If Kerik were to ascend to the chief of HS,with these conflicts of interest, and his pattern of personal gain, it would look like every decision he made was determined by his desire to enrich his stock portfolio, and how could he disprove it?
I don't like this guy, and have never liked him, from my ringside seat 20 miles away in New Jersey. He was sanctified immediately after 9/11, and I ALWAYS distrust that. For Kerik to have issued a statement that his withdrawal centered around a nanny problem is about as feckless and duplicitous as Governor McGreevey stepping down because he was "gay and had a homosexual affair with a man". Just how stupid do they all think we are??

We have had housekeepers that were probably illegals. We live in CA. So most people are illegals that do house work. What is the cut off in pay that you have to pay SS taxes. Just curious.

Bill Clinton didn't resign. Gary Condit didn't step down. Ted Kennedy didn't resign. Klansman Robert Byrd didn't step down. Bahgdad David Bonior and Jihad Jim McDermott never apologized.

When are the Republicans going to learn to stick to their guns? When are they going to realize that they are the majority party?
