VIENNA, Austria - The mysterious illness of Ukrainian opposition leader and presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko was caused by dioxin poisoning that was likely intentional, doctors said Saturday.
Yushchenko has accused Ukrainian authorities of trying to poison him in the runup to a presidential vote marred by fraud. Ukraine's Supreme Court voided the outcome of that vote, which Yushchenko lost to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, and a rerun of the ballot is slated for Dec. 26.
Yushchenko first fell ill in September and was rushed to the Vienna hospital. He resumed campaigning later in the month but with a pockmarked and badly disfigured face.
He returned to the hospital later in September for further treatment and checked in for a third time Friday.
rut roh!!!
A Russian love tap.
Damn.
They aren't even sneaky about it, huh?
Ping
You would think the Russians would have used something that worked faster. Thankfully, he will survive this murder attempt.
I think the Russians would have succeeded if they were the ones who tried. I wonder how he ingested it and why there hasn't been more talk about that.
Yes, with the KGB out of service, they just have to walk up and drop some Dioxin in his vodka.....!!!!!
This doesn't smell right. Google Dioxin and it doesn't come up like a fast acting poison.
He will survive, but he will be disfigured for a looong time. Cloracne (caused by dioxin poisoning) persists for years and years.
Too bad, he was an exceptionally handsome and telegenic man.
It is possible that the dose was not meant to kill him, just incapacitate for several months and take him out of the running.
Some dioxins are fast-acting.
The USSR was the largest poison researcher in the world and used humans extrensively in its research. Putin is from that political realm, a KGB professional himself.
After that attack, the guys face has more pockmarks than the Fra Mauro Highlands on the Moon.
She said he never took medicine but when she was kissing him the night before he fell ill, she said she tasted medicine on his lips and smelled it on his breath.
She said she asked him about it and he said: "Don't worry about it" (or something to that effect).
That led me to wonder if he hadn't taken something himself to cause this.
Is the desire for power in some men so strong that they will disfigure themselves in order to obtain power?
Hmmm....
The head of austrian [sic] clinic Rudolfinerhaus Michael Zimpfer claimed on the press-conference that V.Yushchenko had been poisoned with dioxide.
For the last 24 hours we have finished analisys of blood and there is no doubt that V.Yushchenko was poisoned with dioxide, M.Zimpfer said.
NAMES???
Hospital Says Yushchenko Not Poisoned
29 September 2004 -- The hospital in the Austrian capital Vienna that treated Viktor Yushchenko has issued a statement saying the Ukrainian opposition presidential candidate was not poisoned.
The Rudolfinerhaus hospital did not give details about what it believes to be the cause of Yushchenko's symptoms. It did say "an alleged poisoning is absolutely unfounded in medical terms."
I didn't write the story...just posted it.
I think its a lot more likely that certain men in Moscow are much more willing to kill or disfigure someone in their own quest for power.
But it does go away eventually, then?
