With a nationwide Target store boycott beginning today due to the company's expelling Salvation Army workers from its stores, Albuquerque-based Joy Junction thought it would be interesting to see what Target has given to the well known faith based ministry.
Joy Junction, New Mexico's largest emergency homeless shelter, has received no cash donations from Target and K Mart hasn't given any cash either although K Mart has occasionally given some items to the shelter.
However, Wal-Mart has emerged as a paradigm of generosity, giving over $31,000 to Joy Junction and thousands of dollars of dollars of clothing donations since 1992.
As such, Joy Junction Founder and Executive Director Jeremy Reynalds said, "I'm urging all of our supporters and friends to support the National Clergy Council's boycott on Target and do their Christmas shopping at Wal-Mart, which has a proven track record of reinvesting some of its profits back in the local community."
Reynalds added, "Target's actions are disgraceful and reprehensible.

Jeremy Reynalds is one of the good guys. He writes occasionally for Bushcountry.org. He drove the local libs crazy when he refused a donation to his shelter that had been raised by a "drag queen" fashion show.
I might have taken it.
One of the only allusions to Jesus in the Jewish post-diaspora writings concerns a student of Jesus who asks him whether it is acceptable to place the "hire of a harlot," into the Temple treasury. Jesus supposedly answers, "Why not use the money to build a toilet for the High Priest? ... from the place of filth, to the place of filth." Clever, if true, although I suspect it to be apocryphal.
And, sorry, but even if that were not the case, I am more interested in the work the Salvation Army does that the work the RNC does with money it gets from Target.
Target will just have to suck it up; or change their policies.
Please post a website documenting Target's donations to the Republican party. I would be interested in seeing this.
What is with all of the backlash against all things Christian? What is next? Tossing them to lions? I am sure liberals would love to see that. It was right popular to do such a thing once.

Thats 1 reason I don't like Walmart
and Walmart got an F on the sweatshops report card

Target is a bit higher at a D+
But that's still higher!
Good, boycott them and Federated also.....Target's political BS excuse is no better than the PC letter sent out by Federated. Here is the bottom line, they can have anyone on their property they want....they are a private corporation. If they want to have the Salvation Army and the Salvation Army only they can do that...this is not a PUBLIC institution, it's a private company, and they DO NOT have to give equal access to every crackpot entity out there. Target deserves to be boycotted...their excuse is nothing more than lame PC and they will never see another dime of my money.
Usually, I would have went and checked it out but due to this Salvation Army situation, I just deleted the email and didn't go to the online Target store.
Your point is well taken. They do have a anti-solicitation policy and I can see why they do not feel they can make exception. It probably isn't a religious thing.
On the other hand the Salvation Army does a lot more than just clean up drunks or shelter the homeless. They are there at all major natural disasters and are there for our solders overseas. They spend their money wisely as compared to the Red Cross and United Way. They did a stellar job during 9/11 and put the Red Cross to shame. They lost a lot of their funding because they refused to offer health benefits to same sex couples. They stuck to their guns and refused to compromise their religious principles. The do work everywhere most of which is unnoticed. If the Salvation Army needs the money from the kettle drives to keep going then I am all for it. What they do is for the common good and benefits hundreds if not thousands of people in need. People have a right to vote with their dollars. If they want to organize a boycott so be it. I for one will not be shopping at Target
I received a mailing from Target yesterday. I plan to return it to them today, with the explanation that I already put their portion of my Christmas in the Salvation Army Kettle. If Target needs money, they can get it from their French Management. I will, however, happily visit the Target parking lot while walking my dog.
Generally, there a handy "made in China" tage on stuff made in China. I prefer to individually boycott those items rather than an entire store (which would end up being pretty much every store).
As for 'sweatshops', I am really only opposed to Chinese sweatshops where working there is often forced via the prison system. As for most Indian/Latin American 'sweatshops', working at these sweatshops is the difference between these people eating or not. I fail to see the moral superiority of people (even kids) begging on the street for food instead of working at very low wages. And that just so us pampered Americans don't have to think about the living conditions of those who made our products.
Walmart is so big that it has obtained the financial clout of a small shadow government. Walmart is not the only company like that. This evolution of financial empires and syndicates has had an enormous impact on representative forms of government.
Maybe if they'd stop ringing that damn annoying bell.....
Boycott Walmart
No kidding. The Salvation Army might want to think about updating their fund raising methods and stop being so annoying. Target made a wise, customer-friendly business decision and I, for one, am thrilled!
I'm supposed to accept any behavior so long as they contribute to the republican party ? I'm not going down that path. Sorry.
