Sounds terrible, too bad there wasn't someone there to shoot you.

Dearest ignorant wise-ass: unlike the kid who got the battlefield euthanasia, I happened to already be in a hospital.

Maybe, just maybe, if you'd bothered to inquire on the situation instead of going out of your way to be a dumbass, you wouldn't need this explanation.

If and when Terry Schiavo awakens, will she seek to kill you? Was seeking your death while pursuing her own martyrdom?

I have a video clip of an American soldier gunning down a couple of surrendering Nazi's carrying white flags.

Those were the good old days..

I never realized conservatives were so pro-euthanasia. Can I bust a cap in Terry Schiavo? She ain't getting any better and will probably die pretty soon....

Terry Schiavo is not going to die soon. She can live for decades.

Acute, intense suffering is another matter.

Remember that scene in the "Sand Pebbles"?

The man is being tortured to death by Chinese thugs and the Steve McQueen character puts his friend out of his misery with a long range rifle shot.

Now, as I noted in Post 22, not all claimed euthenasia is really euthenasia but, if any of your relatives ever had morphine administered to them during "hospice care", they were nudged across the River Jordan by Euthenasia-Lite.

No, but I'd pump them up with morphine if necessary.

Couldn't they tell how much pain you were in? Why didn't they shoot you to end it?

They weren't very merciful to extend your suffering like that....

Who knows? Better safe than sorry.

I can see you just want to show the world what an ignorant jackass e-tard you are. I don't want to slow you down. By all means: carry on, little man.

Would you shoot someone severly injured in a car accident?

Putting someone you already shot out of their misery is not the same thing. Iraq is not like the local traffic intersection. There's no hospital right up the road in Iraq. It's hard enough to get friendlies medivaced in time, and still people lose limbs pretty regularly. A lot of that is due to fragmentation and explosives, which is rare outside of combat zones.

There are certain rare circumstances where I'd be inclined to put down a conscious, mortally wounded person who has no possible chance of recieving advanced medical care. I'd never deny anyone a fighting chance, and I'd be applying first aid like a champ if there was even a remote chance of survival. If there was a sliver of doubt, I'd say 'don't give up'.

Most severe trauma cases can be stabilized with immediate first aid and transport to a hospital. Some wouldn't survive if they were injured in the OR. Life's funny that way.

As an EMT I am obligated to work anyone, no matter how far gone, unless they are pronounced dead or have an iron-clad 'Do Not Resuscitate' document at the scene. Even people that I know would rather not be brought back. No way in hell could I hasten anyone's departure without going to prison

I can understand the impulse to do this sort of thing, but that's just one more impulse that you had better not act upon. This soldier is probably a decent guy, but he went way over the line here. We all get Rule Of Engagement lectures up the wazoo when we get in-country, and he had to know better.

BTW, before anyone brings up the Marine who shot the jihadi playing possum, that is apples and oranges.

Acute, intense suffering is another matter.

How much suffering makes it OK to shoot him? Can we ever really codify that?

The man is being tortured to death by Chinese thugs and the Steve McQueen character puts his friend out of his misery with a long range rifle shot.

Completely different case. And besides, it's a movie....

I don't think my comment rose to the level of being compared to a Nazi, or Pol Pot.

Can you not imagine an instance where it's best to put down a rabid dog, rather than allow it to bite your kids?

Now, if you can just imagine that a human being can be so diluded as to be a considerable danger to life and limb (i.e. a terrorist), then killing them is a service to all, including the person in question.

I do belive that the Jews were innocent victims, not terrorists..the same goes for Pol Pot's many victims. A dead terrorist, in my opinion, is not a victim.

Knee jerk somewhere else..You shouldn't have made such a comparison.

No, but I'd pump them up with morphine if necessary.

That's the right thing to do. Why wouldn't you do that to the Iraqi kid? Every unit has a medic....

Not any more he wasn't. He was pretty much just dying....

Why are you so concerned with 'showing him mercy' by capping him then?

No. I'll apply the same dictum, "If he was good to shoot the first time, then he was justified for the second time."

You suck, there aren't medic's on every corner in Iraq, put the islamo a-hole teenager at the feet of allah for his freakin' 72 virgins, I say! ...It was definitely the right thing to do given the situation.

I have absolutely no mercy for terrorists. Mercy should befall to US solder for having doing the dirty work of cleansing the planted and getting court marshaled for it.

You bet. In this case, these guys didn't even try that.... I think they just freaked out.

I saw a TACS lane in training once where the situation was that a troop is injured by a mine and the unit comes under fire.

The injured guy plays it very realistically and was screaming bloody murder. The PL get flustered and then shoots the wounded guy with MILES gear.

I couldn't believe it. Nobody could.... He got some pretty good couselling after that....

"If he was good to shoot the first time, then he was justified for the second time."

It doesn't work that way under the Rules of Engagement or the Laws of Ground Warfare, wildman.
