Re: "severe abdominal wounds" I had read that half his skull was gone. Just damn.

As a former Navy medical officer, I would have testified on the soldier's behalf in the case of "half his skull missing". I would have .....ummmm....."relived the patient's suffering" with morphine myself but all the soldier had was his M-16.

In the case of "severe abdominal wounds", you can't make that call until you get the guy into surgery.

So, what was it?

Half his skull missing or abdominal wounds? It makes a huge difference.

I guess the US must take the high road again while our enemies will not, killing us at any and every turn. I'm sure while we dishonor our own. Islamofacist strap on suicide belts to kill themselves and us, will saw off heads of their captives...you get my point.

Pretty fast on convicting this brave soldier are you? even the title claims a mercy killing. He was already taken for dead, it was a favor...you simpleminded islamofascist-sympathazer.

sheesh!

As a former Army officer, I still wouldn't cap a guy 'with half his skull missing' just to make myself feel better about the way he died. It ain't right....

You are simply pro-euthanasia.

I am in the Army National Guard. I would close with and kill any enemy of this nation, but I won't kill an unarmed mortally wounded prisoner. I'm just not capable of that.

Mercy killing is illegal. I'm sorry that one of my fellow GIs did this, but he had to know better.

We are not war criminals and murderers--they should be dishonored.

In what other cases do you support euthanasia?

referring to a wailing ball of blood, fire and screams, trapped in a burning tomb with his internal organs draining into his lap. I think Sergeant Horne did a very human thing in a very inhuman situation.

I concur. And I can personally vouch for the caliber of pain an abdominal wound delivers. It is not for the faint of heart, let me assure you. Even the simple act of breathing is a labor...and coughing or sneezing is an agony I can't even begin to describe.

I wouldn't let one of my pets suffer the sort of torture that young man was experiencing...but Sgt. Horne is a bad guy for ending his suffering.

If this crap keeps up, we are going to lose this war in less than a decade.

I'm with you all the way on this. I'm just not as good at articulating it.

There are rules. They've been there for a very long time. They were put there by people who have fought in wars and wanted them there.

Random Captians running around, deciding which wounded need to be compassionately put out of their misery, is a frightening thought. I certainly would not have wanted to get wounded anywhere near that man.

Thank you. Jeez... I didn't realize conservatives were in favor of 'mercy killing'.

You're an EMT: Is it ever OK to shoot someone wounded terribly in a car accident? If so, what caliber do you recommend?

Sounds terrible, too bad there wasn't someone there to shoot you.

Could the soldier be eligible for a pardon from the president?

[I recall Clinton pardoning puerto rican terrorists, drug smugglers, fugitive Marc Rich and anyone else willing to pay]

Then you'd be a war-criminal as well.

Would you shoot someone terribly injured in a car-wreck?
