agreed on all points Dahl's book was much darker than the happy "Candy Man" tilt of the Gene Wilder film. And yup Elfman's music is great in all the Burton films. It was a little weak in Big Fish, I hope this one is better, I saw a different trailer and it had Edward Scissorhands soundtrack music dubbed in, probably for temporary.

The Ed Wood soundtrack is the only Burton one without Elfman, but its pretty good too. I guess he figured Elfman wouldn't capture the cheezy 50's horror sound with the theramin and all.

I dunno. IMHO Gene Wilder brought a definite unnerving edge to the '71 film, and if you get past the gooey music, there's a sense that Willy Wonka's world is hell as a candy factory.
