I've done that road, but the most freightening one I've ever done in a standard vehicle is the Allegheny Tyler-Foote Cross road in the Sierras. An old wagon road carved out of solid granite, the edges of the road are filled-in with stacked rocks cut by Chinese labor in the 1870s. Then there's the 4000' drop.
Not for the light-of-heart!
Now, in 1977 I drove the Al-Can highway from Fairbanks to Seattle in a Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Bought a new front-end in Seattle!
If you want heart failure try driving Independence Pass into Aspen sometime. It's breathtakingly beautiful with waterfalls cascading out of the sides of the mountains, sheer cliffs and wildflowers, but the road is very steep......narrow in places....and full of blind curves.
NOT for the faint of heart:-)
