Ah the Christmas season! That wonderful time of year when the elites dispatch thousands of lawyers to stamp out all traces of what the holiday means to us faithful whilst (and at the same time) flailing us with our own beliefs to donate more and more cash to their favorite charities. Such hypocrisy is bested only by our own wimpiness in buying the sham.

Yes! i think the tide is slowly turning - people have had enough of the left's brand of "diversity" and "tolerance."
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

and a Verry MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, too me friend!
I certainly hope and pray that you are correct. It's amazing how many people demand the day off with pay, but can't stomach the prospect of figuring out WHY they have the day off. Ya don't hear me carp about MLK doya?

The point about charities particularly struck me. I have had several requests to donate to a certain large, liberal organization that collects during Christmas season, which I refuse to do because of where the money could go. Most people are just fine if I say that I've already donated both time and money to other organizations (the Operation Christmas Child program of Samaritan's Purse is one I highly recommend, for example.) But there's always someone who acts like there's something wrong with giving to a "religious" charity--ignoring both the cultural history behind this holiday in our nation and the large amount of waste and the dogmatic nature of the liberal organization. That's frustrating.

I know a few "politically correct" charities that I'd rather not subsidize. and I don't. When I give, I usually give to the cause I beleive in, no "umbrella" organizations, and no libs.

I'm surprised the ACLU hasn't targeted MLK day as an impermissible establishment of religion. The ONLY federal holiday honoring a US citizen (Columbus obviously was not an "American," and Presidents' Day sort of honors two Presidents), MLK Day recognizes a CHRISTIAN minister who used the moral authority of his religion (oh my!) to bravely fight injustice and transform society. I have no problem whatsoever with the holiday. I wonder why the ACLU does not.
Actually, I don't wonder. I know. They have an anti-Christian agenda. Period.
Believe me, I've been through all the legal arguments, in detail. I am painting a broad-brush conclusion, I know. But it's the only explanation that fits.
It will be fun to see whether the ACLU is as aggressive in enforcing the "separation of church and state" against Muslims. And if they do, it will be interesting to see the Muslim community's reaction.

MLK and Islam are two PC causes. Christianity and white folk are not.
wait until Easter when Good Friday gets attacked once more. I actually had a co worker demand that the union eliminate good friday as a paid holiday!

Yes, I have run across Samaritan's Purse - seems very worthy. Easy to find on the web.
Heifer.org seems to do some of the same work, but I don't know who runs it, etc.
I have tried to fight my own crass materialism through these charities. Giving a needy third-world family breeding hens to feed them, or distributing Bibles in far-flung corners of the globe, seems a lot more worthy use of my money than, say, buying myself a DVD or a flashy but useless doo-dad that catches my fancy in a Sharper Image catalog.

Hey, I say live and let live. Let others have holidays, but don't attack mine.
I do agree that Christianity is definitely under attack. Some sort of special focus. Why is the minister or priest almost always portrayed at the bad guy on TV shows?
And I do think the MLK example is a good one. It's impossible to dispute that he used the moral authority of his religion to achieve sweeping (and needed!) societal change. Something we are told is the evil that the ignorant hicks of the red states voted for. Of course, race relations, affirmative action, etc. is a whole 'nother issue. But Washington, Lincoln, the abolitionists, FDR, etc. all invoked God and the nation's spiritual sense and mission. And some folks out there are trying to destroy it!

This past election year has shown me which charities NOT
to give to. I hope many others have woke up to what they really are as well. Here's hoping these "charities" have a crappy year; Maybe they will realize why and get rid of their celebrity big mouth representitives not that it will help, I'll never donate to them again.

Right!
I remember at one job about 15 years ago, some people complained that Good Friday was a holiday and Yom Kippur was not. (Hey, I respect other people's traditions! I just want the same in return.) Anyway, the people had a point, I would think, although trying to "compare" holidays is kinda hard. So the firm (which was having financial problems anyway) got rid of Good Friday, rather than adding a new holiday!
I agree. Paid holidays are good.
What month was Reagan born? :)
Have a good one!
