In this case, that detail makes a big difference, and the reporter and editor are negligent for leaving it out.

They allow you to guess, saying Long and company told the victim he was a disgrace to his race. That leads me to belive Long is white.
But I disagree, race is irrelevant. This was a horrible crime. And a hate crime. Regardless what race he is, the perp should spend a very long time in jail.
